moving blog permanently to new location, any pitfalls? ADVICE NEEDED!

hey guys, ok ive been thinking about this for a long time, and the longer i leave it, i wonder the worse it will get

am considering moving my personal blog on a .info to a new website am looking to register (preferably .com) this is mainly because i have been noticing (and I may be wrong) its harder to rank .info vs say .com, .org, .net etc

for example for one keyword am no.2 on google.co.uk and nowhere near the top 3 pages for google.com (and typically its never that much of a difference although i know they rank different) so am putting it down to the .info tld...am i wrong?

so i dont wanna continue investing time , effort and resources to seo my blog if it is always going to take double the effort to rank on .info for some keywords im targeting...

so am left wondering, and also have so many things going of in my head what will happen, if my existing rankings will be transferred to new site / (as am looking to do a permanent redirect to let google know the site has moved)...

what if someone visits domain.com/category1

will they now see a error...or will the be redirected to newdomain.com/category2...

or least even re-direct to the new page?...kind lost and confused..and just blabbing on now!...so what would fellow warriors say? / recommend

      Your answer is definately 301 redirects.

      If you Google the topic, you'll find instructions on what these are and how to do them.

      Effectively, you replace the page with the "old" content, and provide a link to the "new" content. Everything happens seamlessly, so the surfer doesn't know it's happening, and it's the most search engine friendly way of moving a site. It can be a lot of work on a big site, but your ranking juice will pass through to the new location. (which is always helpful)

    I'm not convinced a *.info site is handicapped. If you have a competitive keyword phrase ranked well, why are you thinking you need to dump the *.info?
