Wow.. Took me 30 minutes to make an Article! How long do you spend writing 1 article?

I just finished a 600 word article in 30 minutes. To be fair though, I had no exp in this niche, so I had to research a little. You see, I have a bum marketing plan to write 20 articles a day. At this speed, it would take me 10 hours!

How long does it take for your avg warrior to write an article?

Does anyone have experience with DNS? Is it worth it?

It all depends on how much you know on what you're writing about. And since you had to do research, 30 minutes isn't bad at all.

There's an article I started working on back in April.

Hopefully, one of these days I will finish it.

It's my pleasure to announce that Dan will not finish the article until he's pretty sure that he will earn a gazillion dollars from it considering the time input.

When input is equal to or less than output, the investor is often happier for it.

I hope I'll get a gazillion dollars out of it.

It's just one I keep putting off. I've done others in the meantime. It's just this one needs a little bit more research done and that research is best done at the office, and I usually only think of it when I'm at home.

It weighs in at just a little over 3,000 words, so there's not too much more to write for it.

I could be in a frenzy and write 3000 words an hour of quality work and another time it could take me weeks without any reason at all :p But at the best 3000 words / hour. At worst it never gets finished.

It's not a secret at all. I wish you were a 'good' writer. I wonder how poor writers identify who a good writer is. Yes, I wonder. I wonder the yardstick they use to measure the 'goodness' of a writer. Maybe it's speed. Maybe it's quality.

To me, article marketing is all about writing an article that compels a reader to take the ultimate action - purchase.

I focus on articles that will convert readers to buyers. As such, I spend a lot more time writing articles than most people. Typical time investment for me is 4-5 hours.

But then to put that in perspective, my last article took 4 hours and generated $1200 in sales within one week of having written it.

Same here Bill. I don't focus on writing article FAST. I don't do hit-and-run type of articles anymore.

In fact, I spend as much time as I could, to write something out, based on other people's questions asked, and I write what I thought, quality reports with 3k-4k words.

It's not even an article anymore. It usually came out as a report that I can break it down to multiple series, and sell it as a front-end lead generation small report.

Time spend on a good "article report" for me is usually around 3-5 hours.

My last few "article reports" has made me a lot of future JV partners and networking partners. That's even better than monetary form of result, in the long run.

So yes, Bill, I agree with what you've mentioned, quality comes first, quantity comes second, at least, that's my case.

If I am writing an article for backlinks, then I can whip one out in 5 minutes.

But I think Bill might be rubbing off on me because that last few I have written have taken an hour to 2 hours. Like Alexa, I write a bit, then go off and do something else, then come back and write or edit some more. That seems to be the most effective for me. I think both of them ended up being over 1000 words, but I wasn't focusing on word count, just on a good article and that's just how many words it took.

Of course, these have been much higher quality and to tell you the truth they are a lot more fun to write.

Sure, I still like to have "quickie" articles for backlinks, but now I outsource those and reserve my "writing time" for the higher quality stuff.

Still, I can't say that one has made me $1200, so maybe I better stop slacking off with those fast 2 hour articles and ramp up to the 4 hour ones

Speed is mostly irrelevant. Some people can spit out an article in 10 minutes that is higher in quality than anything I can do. You just have to know your limitations, and shoot for outsourcing in the areas where you need it.

I bought that a couple of years ago, read it at the time and thought it was wonderful - then promptly forgot about it.

I started writing review articles recently - and the first one took a while, but after you've written a few you speed up.

If there's one thing I learnt from write an article in 7 minutes it's to have a template for the structure of each article (and as mentioned the bonus of turn 1 into 8 is fantastic). You can then concentrate on getting the research done and the article all but writes it self.

I found it on my harddrive again last night - and printed it out. I'll be reading over it again tonight as I'm moving away from review articles for now and going to do other types.

To the OP - writing is like a muscle. It improves with exercise, so you'll see that half hour per article come down over time.

30 minutes is pretty good, particularly if you didn't have any experience in the niche. My timing varies depending on how much knowledge I have on the niche. If it is something I know inside out I can whip up an article in 10 minutes, if it's a niche I know nothing about then 30 to 40 minutes.

      It all depends..

If I am writing about a topic that I am knowledgeable about then i can get a 400 words article done in about 10-15 minutes as I would be writing from my head.

However, if it's a topic that I am fairly new to, I would have to do some research to get familiar before start writing and that can take anywhere from a few minutes to possibly hours!

Totally agree, niches which you can write from the top of your head are pretty easy to write fast articles about, I've found if your going to go with bum marketing and you want to write 10 articles a day, you're better off splitting your time to work (Say you've got 6 hours to work today), spending 1 hour researching, then the second writing, then swapping between the two. Not only are you educating yourself, but you'll probably get less bored as well.

Alex, that is excellent advice, especially if you're writing about topics that you're not familiar with. By doing all the research before ever typing a word, you tend to be able to write a lot faster about unfamiliar topics.

I think that many people underestimate how much time it'll take to write about an unfamiliar topic when they try to combine research and writing together at the same time. The mind gets distracted with the multiple tasks at hand, with the end result being an article that takes longer than it should to complete!

It's not a bad start at all, as you're still new to this. As with anything else, you'll get better and faster at it. And to be fair, you wrote a longer than average article (most writers pump out articles in the 400-500 word range), and you were writing about an unfamiliar topic.

You'll get much more skilled at this if you keep this up, just keep writing consistently.

It really depends on what I'm writing for. For example if I'm writing a quick article to go up on one of the "article blog networks" it can take me as little as ten minutes to get a 500 word article written, anchors linked and have it submitted. If I'm writing a review or selling something it can sometimes take me much longer.

Promotional writing comes natural to me so writing a PR takes very little time, while writing something that is more down to earth and feels "real" might even take me a whole day to get right.

Don't worry so much about the speed at which you write, at least for now. Focus on the quality of your articles instead - because if you write 10 articles at breakneck speed and they don't convert, what good will they ultimately do?

It's all about what you need that article to do, and what it takes for you to get it there.

If an article returns a couple hundred dollars or so and it takes 2 hours to write it...you are earning a hundred an hour for your efforts.

It's more important that the article will do the work for you than to obsess how long it took you to get there (within reason, of course.) Once the article is placed on a site, it will continue to earn for as long as it is relevant in search. This, of course, assumes you know how to SEO.

I would suggest finding a book at the library which is directly related to your niche. Then rewrite a few paragraphs into an article. This allows you to write an article on a very very specific topic in a short amount of time, 20 minutes or so.

Make sure you write the article in your own words and throw in a few original thoughts for good measure. Best of luck.

Articles I write for my own affiliate marketing typically take me between 3 and 4 hours each, maybe even a little more. It's difficult to measure accurately because I almost never do them "all in one session" but keep returning, in-between various other activities (including posting here!), for further "edits".

It's worth spending the time on, for me, because I need them to filter out all the people who aren't going to be customers, and reduce the resource-box clickers to "high probability prospects".

And it's worth taking the care, because each article can be so widely syndicated elsewhere in front of targeted audiences who already are high probability prospects.

For me, it's not a numbers game at all - it's a quality game: quality effectively breeds and multiplies, generating real increasing residual income, while quantity can only decline.

Don't worry, one day when you get really get at this internet marketing thing, it won't take you that long. You'll be able to do it in six minutes...Of course, the downside is no one will read, but you'll be able to splatter a whole bunch of them all over the internet.

Just kidding, I appreciate your and Bill Platt's perspective on quality articles that get syndicated. it's a refreshing change to hear you talk about providing value and getting results in return.

If its a subject I've had to research it probably takes me longer than half an hour to write a decent article, for subjects I'm knowledgeable on now it takes me about ten - fifteen minutes to write something with decent content.

I think writing articles with decent content is the key and highly important, if you have the money I'd suggest outsourcing some of your articles to start with, if your writing about a subject you don't know that much about.

I've noticed this in a few posts here but who says you can't write something rather quickly that's still high quality?

Might be a bit contrary and I respect a lot of people in this thread so don't take offense to this...but slow article writing (in the sense of IM articles not for professional journals that are 5,000 words) in my experience is from...

    lack of planning
    lack of background research
    lack of an outline

If we're simply talking about time in front of a keyboard "writing" (always love that we count typing on a keyboard as the act of "writing...") 30 minutes is a long time no matter how you look at it.

Maybe I'm a fast typist, maybe I've written too many articles in my life, maybe maybe maybe. But having an outline, doing research before hand (NOT while slamming the article out), and setting a timer (******** HOT TIP *******) are the ways I use to go faster and get more done.

I might not be Time Magazine quality but people like my work so I guess it's all good

    Cheers,

    Brad

I love using them too, for something that I don't have any idea on how and what to write about!

I have been using them for around one year, I like how their system works too...

I don't use them as often nowadays, but yea, they are good!

Are you marketing the same product / niche? Then you only need to write 1 article per day.. +19 rewrites. If this is the case you may be doing 6 hrs instead of 10.

It all depends on whether it's for being read by real human beings vs spun content for backlinks.

If it's the former, quality over quantity. Presell with your article and don't worry about how long it takes.

30 minutes is a good time if you don't know the niche and are writing a quality article. After you know a niche well, you can write considerably faster.

Dragon Naturally Speaking is helpful, but it's different than typing. You end up pausing a lot to think about what you are going to say, instead of planning it out while you are typing. You also have to watch it for silly mistakes.

However, I'd definitely recommend DNS to save on hand strain. Switching back and forth probably has kept me from getting carpal tunnel!

not bad at all, take your time. Research the topic, and try to make something that will appeal to them. Obviously that's what you were doing with research, but it's good to try and hook them in, that way they continue to look over your site.

30 minutes is pretty good considering you had to do some research. It varies for me. In niches I'm pretty familiar with I can write an article in 20-30 minutes, otherwise just the research can take me 30 minutes or more, then another 30-60 to write the article.
Then there are the days that it takes me 30 minutes just to put a comma in... And the funny thing is, another 30 minutes and I wind up removing it!

I'd rather have quality than speed. It's my reputation out there...

      Thanks,
      Ted

I guess it would be sacrilege to suggest that sometimes I spend 4-5 hours writing an article even when I actually know the topic much better than most experts.

I am not slowed down because I don't know the topic. I am slowed down because I want to create a persuasive article that will lead people to take from the article what I want them to take, and it will lead people to take the action I want them to take at the conclusion of reading the article.

How many articles have people written in 30 minutes that ended up leading directly to sales in the 4- to 5-figure range?

Not to brag, but I have written quite a few articles that have produced results at this level of performance.

While I may have sat down and cranked out 1000-words in 30 minutes or 1400-words in 45 minutes, I am never done at that point in the process. In fact, the hard work is about to begin.

Now I have to edit the article for length, readability and persuasion.

(I try to get all of my articles down to 1000-1200 words in length, so I need to cut words when editing.)

Often the most difficult part of the process is brainstorming the angle that I will use to create the next article.

Then I spend 30-minutes cranking out draft one.

Then I spend the next 3-hours tweaking and fine-tuning the copy.

It is never the first 30-minutes that make me the most money, but rather the final 3-hours of editing that turns an average article into one that will deliver serious results to me.

I often go through an article one dozen times, tweaking and editing as I go, before I finally conclude the process with an article I am proud enough of to slap my own name on.

p.s. I write under pen names as well. And you can bet that if I am not 100% sold on the final draft of the article, it will be distributed under a pen name. Some times the idea sounded better in my head than it looked on paper, so rather than to throw it all away, I will pen name it and let it go out as it stands.

p.p.s. If you want to start making more money from your article marketing, then stop writing draft one and calling it good enough!!

I can write an article in my niche in 10mn. If it's in Im, 8 minutes for a good and unique 300 word article.

If it takes to much time, it's not worth it, you should outsource. And even if you write fast, your best bet is knowing your numbers and delegate.

30 minutes is a good pace.

For me the key is to get the framework laid out first and then fill in the gaps around these key points.

Just diving in results in wooly articles that provide limited benefit to the reader or the writer

I don't think it matters how long you take writing an article. What matters most is have you written something that will draw in the reader's attention?

The time it takes me to write an article varies with the subject matter. My focus is more on quality, so, if it takes 15 or 45 minutes is not something I care about. If I'm happy with what I've written, then it's time well spent.

That's actually kind of quick for a 600 word article. That could have taken me a little less than an hour. But I believe in quality over quantity. It's important the article captivates the reader's attention, and it's optimized for SEO. I don't write an article unless I have at least 3 or 4 LSI keywords that can flow naturally in the writing.

I take too long in writing a good article. But if only I want goods for places Adsense and to sell properly, I take long between ten to fifteen minutes. Goods what else take time in their writing they are the ones that are properly optimized to turn traffic into money. Between two to four hours, it depends on the difficulty of the niche.

How long does it take for your avg warrior to write an article?

Does anyone have experience with DNS? Is it worth it?
Wow! That's an awesome writing skill. I barely need 4-5 hours writing an article. I need to think first critically on what I should write and then put on the paper all what's on my mind about the topic. After that, I rewrite the article and then rewrite it again based on grammar and logical arrangement.

Keep up the good work Kan!

There appear to be alot of 'superhumans' on this forum lol

When we speak about duration of writing an article, I think it helps to quantify what exactly we mean by "article". Are we talking about a 100-300 word article? When I think of a high quality article, I think of articles like THIS:

11 Celebrities Who Were Secretly Total Badasses | Cracked.com

(Not my article, just citing an example of how I like to write my articles.)

I challenge anyone to write an article like that in 10 minutes.

I suppose it all depends on what exactly you use the article for, I guess.

100-300 words - snippets not articles. I don't write less than 500 words when I write my own articles. I also add time for checking at least twice. It's so easy to miss little grammatical errors that can change the meaning of a sentence.
