The google dance jitters.

I've just been google danced.

I put up my first site and it was starting to move up the rankings.
it did alright - but then I noticed that the keyword I had started to rank for was wrong (I'd got mixed up whilst researching a domain name and forgot the original keyword I was going after - DOH!!!).

So I started replacing links that I'd put out there to the new keyword (I was using 3waylinks to get links so i was able to do this).

I started moving up the rankings for the new keyword and the old one.
Then all of a sudden my site disappeared from the rankings.

Logically I thought it might be the google dance - but each day that went by and my site didn't appear back the more nervous I got.

Would the other sites I'd built disappear too, had I wasted all that work. The little self doubt monster started whispering in my ear.

Today - some eleven days after it disappeared my site came back.
It's now on page one for the keyword term that I wont get any traffic from, but it's also moved from page 6 to page 3 for the new keyword term.

I guess if i've learn anything from this whole experience is to not worry about it, and just keep building sites in the mean time (luckily I did).

Yeah, my first website is doing the Google cha-cha right now. I agree that it's hard not to worry about it and get discouraged when it's happening to your only site, which is why I started another in the mean time. Mine is on day 17 of being gone, though.

Actually, checking now, it's showing up on page 7. How exciting... with any luck it'll be back soon.

That last observation you made is very important! Early on I made the mistake of getting too wrapped up in monitoring a single site. I wasn't getting anything done. It's a costly mistake when you consider all of the things you could be doing instead of that. Excellent point.

It took me a lot of time and money to finally make my first commissions. What did I learn that made it happen?
I'll show you here for FREE!

P.S. Check out my awesome blog here!

Google is not the Holy Grail... It is only one of millions of websites from which you can get traffic.

The fact that you picked the wrong keyword should not be the death knell of your new website. In fact, it may be an opportunity to target more than one keyword.
