How about specifying a fixed margin in % or pixels?

You're opening a real Pandora's box with layers. IE and FireFox handle them differently and getting them to line up properly in both can be a real challenge. My recommendation is don't use 'em.

When you are designing the page are you in the Common or Layout tab?

    It goes:
Insert Common Layout Forms Data Spry Text Favorites

Layout lets you set APdivs - absolutely positioned div tags. Dreamweaver generates CSS which different browsers can see differently... objects move to places where you don't want them.

If you are working in the Common tab, you can specify the exact placement of tables and cells relative to the rest of the webpage though the property manager at the bottom, but then you are not in CSS, and objects should stay put.

Since you are using layers, I'm assuming you are in the Layout tab???

When I use CSS I get entirely different looks depending whether I view in IE or Foxfire. When I use tables and cells, and mark their positioning in the property manager, everything seems to stay where I want it no matter what the browser.

But designing in Layout mode is soooo much easier. You can just drag a layer to where you want it, then hope the viewing browser doesn't change things.

Okay, there's a lot of good stuff here.
I'm going to take a few minutes and decipher it all.

Don, I have been working in the common tab and I still have the problems.
Normally it's a vertical stretch with any of the layer positions.
Although, it's very difficult to explain.

How do I specify fixed margin? Doesn't dream weaver do that automatically?

I have video tutorials on css but I thought that the dream weaver from He##
      was based on css.
Can you really make things stay their same size and also stationary by writing your own css?
