How to Calm Down when you Panic?

Okay, serious question here. I'm in a very severe financial situation, and it's making it extremely hard to get anything done. I can't think about anything but the situation I'm in, and it's actually making it harder to do anything about it.

So does anyone have any tips I can use that could help me calm down and focus? I desperately need to be able to think with a clear head, because it's 8 days until Christmas and 1 day until we're homeless, and my family is counting on me. I HAVE to be able to concentrate, but my thoughts are so jumbled and screwed up right now that I can't figure out what to do.

I have so many ideas, but if I make the wrong choice about what to do, it will destroy us. The pressure is just too much.

I've tried taking a short walk and getting some fresh air. I've tried getting my mind off the situation by doing something else for a while. But it's not working.

Help!

Sorry to hear that Taylor. I honestly don't know what I'd do in that situation.

I guessing the housing situation is the big stress factor, but the one thing that you can take control over is Christmas. Try focus on the fact that you still have your family and cut stress by not worrying about gifts and all that jazz. My wife and I haven't done gifts the past couple of years to help with finances ... and to tell you the truth, it's a bit of a relief. If you have kids, and they don't really know what's going on ... let them know you're doing some new this year. Maybe put a rain check on things until later, or do some volunteer stuff or whatever. Figure out a way to turn in into a positive.

Then get focused & settled on how you're going to work out the housing. Think about housing as a temporary situation that will get worked out ... people move all the time ... you're just going to be doing it sooner than you thought. Hopefully you have some family or friends that can give you a place to stay?

Maybe none of that is what you're looking for and maybe it won't work out quite like that ... but I bet you could at least have some control over your thoughts and panic so you can get leveled out again. Hope that helps!

Focus on the things that you are thankful for. Focus on your past accomplishments.

A year and a half ago, I was told I had 40% of being alive today and my unborn baby was going to be lucky to make it. In that moment, I was floored. Focused entirely on the worst outcome, when I needed to be at my best. My husband got me refocused on the positive things so that I could make it through a very challenging time.

I am alive and cancer free. My son just turned one and is healthy.

Focus on one moment at a time. Take breaks and have fun with your family.

I couldn't have said that any better. I agree absolutely!

Focus on the things you are thankful/grateful for... and
do anything/everything that makes you feel GOOD about
yourself. That's the most important thing right now - not
HOW you are going to get out of the problems. The HOWs
get taken care of when you feel good and are grateful!

    Hi Taylor.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Try to remember that even in the worst case scenario you can start again. Every millionaire has problems, every billionaire has had big problems.

Worst case scenario you get an offline job and build up again for a year.

    You will be fine.

Dude, it'll work out. Try not to make it a rush. don't be in such a hurry. Iknow that's probably hard being with your situation. But sometimes you can't rush success.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully things will start looking up for you soon.

Sorry to hear this, but IMO opinion being online here when you may be homeless tomorrow is not wise. You need to take action and you need to take it quickly.

There is only one idea to pursue at this late stage. You need to find someone who knows you and beg them for enough money to tide you over until you can get your money-making mojo running again. Try friends, relatives, government offices, social agencies, churches... or whoever.

Help is out there. Turn off your computer and go out and get it. It may be humiliating for you to plead with others for money, but that how it goes. Once you get back on your feet (and you will) you will want to do 2 things... never allow yourself to fall into this situation gain... and always offer a helping hand to others since you have been in their position.

I hope my comments did not seem unkind, but action is everything now. Not action on a computer, but among real people with cash.

Believe me, I've tried that route already. I have no friends or family, and I've called United Way and every church within 20 miles. No one has any funding. It's all been given out already.

Right now, working online is all I have. I've managed to come up with a small amount of cash tonight. I just have to build on it.

The worst of the panic is over. Since someone bought something, it's made me feel slightly better. Now I'm just working on turning it into more.

Thanks for all the comments. I've also received a PM with an idea that I'm going to take action on tomorrow regarding offline marketing. Hopefully that will turn up something good.

    Music is my answer...

    It's a beautiful day
    Sky falls, you feel like
    It's a beautiful day
    Don't let it get away

    Don't give up
    'Cause you have friends
    Don't give up
    You're not beaten yet
    Don't give up
I know you can make it good

Blow away the dreams that tear you apart
Blow away the dreams that break your heart
Blow away the lies that leave you nothing but lost and brokenhearted

Taylor, I truly sympathize with your situation, especially at this time around the holidays.

I know this may be the last thing on your mind now, but have you thought of meditating for some time each day? It'll help clear your thoughts and help you focus better on the task at hand. It may not be easy to start off, especially if you're new to it, but the benefits are truly immeasurable.

In regards to your current situation, now is probably the time to start looking for offline solutions to your predicament, especially since you're so close to being homeless. I don't know if you have relatives or friends that you can stay with, but if you don't, I really think you need to get up and away from the computer and do anything (as long as it's legal) to get some quick cash in your pockets.

You could try offline marketing like you've mentioned, but don't overlook offering your services to do things like shovel snow, put up lights, carry trees, etc. Now is not the time for your pride to get in the way, with so much on the line. I'd get out there right away and start looking around and asking to see if there's anything I could do for people in your vicinity.

Focus on the good things, even when you feel like there aren’t many good things. Whenever you start to think about your bad situation, and it is getting you off focus, think about something good in your life.
Are you in good health? Do you have a spouse, partner, or good friend who cares about you?
Think about these positive aspects of your life and let them be more important to you than the negatives, even if just for a moment.

If I was in your situation I'd focus on the current emergency and just working on getting some money in the door. It appears that you have some marketable seo skills. Maybe you could find some contract internet marketing related work with a company in your city.
