Mixing business with pleasure on same blog?

Has anyone tried mixing their personal and business life on the same blog to make you seem more real and trustworthy?

What I'm talking about is taking your general business blog and mixing in personal posts like what you did that day, sports, personal goals etc.

Basically combine your IM blog and your personal blog into one blog.

Of course business posts and personal life posts would be in different categories.

Thoughts on this?

I don't personally have a business blog, but if I did I probably wouldn't post personal stuff on it. That's just my own thing, though. I do read lots of marketer blogs, and for me it doesn't really matter if they post personal stuff - I don't "trust" the ones that do any more than the guys that don't post it. My 2 cents.

Well, Mr Poster, my blog is all about me but I do occasionally talk about dog business too!

I may need to add a little more.

What I'm talking about is say you have a blog that is your name. Would you put both business and personal posts on it?

Why I am even thinking about this is because most people prefer to buy from individuals and not companies. Yes they buy from companies but they usually deal with an individual.

This way your customers and prospects can get to know you better on a personal basis. This should equal more trust in the long run.

I could be way off base here. But the wheels of thought are turning.

What I have done is add a personal touch to the about tab in my niche specific websites. It lets the reader know that I can relate to how they feel or what they need because I have been there to. This can also be done in your listbuilding emails. Relate what you are promoting to a personal scenario every once in awhile. You could also send personal emails around a time like Christmas with pictures about yourself and your family from last year to wish them a Merry Christmas. People enjoy seeing that perspective about your life. Some people add pictures about what they are doing if it relates to something on their site, depending on their niche.

      Hope this is helpful !

    Hi Rob,

I'd add your personality to your blog with stick with a basic topic. You can toss in the everyday posts once in a while but always try to convey a message that is relevant to your niche.

Stray too frequently from your theme and readers will go somewhere else to get their fix. Depending on your theme though it could be fairly easy to tie in your experiences with the subject matter.
