I have to be honest and admit that money does motivate me..and I dont think its an evil thing...if I know a project will make me bank at the end of the month, Unconsciously I dedicate more time toward it... What's really motivate you?

I'm the same... Lifestyle motivates me way more than money.

Having the freedom to do what I want, when I want, is much more important than cash in the bank.

I remember Frank Kern doing a really good presentation about how he had tons of money but was completely miserable... He had lots of material things, but his lifestyle sucked! When he finally focused on the things that really made him happy, that's when he was fully living his dream. I try to remind myself of these things regularly!

    :-)

Well, to be honest I think you have to think deeper than that. I always though I am motivated by money when I started off and I used to look at these screenshots on salesletters and imagine if I had all this money and stuff.

Then time came when I did start making money. I was slowly growing from $500 a month to $1000 and month and so on. But something was missing and no matter what I did I was not happy with all the money coming in.

When I reached this stage, I started losing my motivation. I started quitting when things got harder. I stopped working on new projects. Simply put, I stopped growing.

Then I finally came across Les Brown's video on youtube and he said that you need to find out WHY you want to succeed and why you want the money you do.

I started thinking and after like 15 minutes of hard thinking I had listed three of the most important things that I want in my life. Now the list is kind of personal so I won't share it here but the general theme of all three things was my family.

My family always made me happy and I want money just so I can make sure that my mom doesn't have to work once I turn 18, I know that when my brother goes to college with a 2.5 GPA he won't get any scholarships and I wanted to make sure I am able to help my parents pay for the college of his choice, I wanted to be able to go on vacations with my family.

I can keep going on and on but I will stop here. I think that all of us don't just want money but we want money for a purpose and achieving success and staying motivated gets tons easier when you figure out that purpose.

So find your motivation and find WHY you need money.

        Hope it helps

To me, in and of itself its nothing - money, that is. I mean the actual paper stuff or digits passing between computers. Just try asking folk who have lived in hyper-inflation societies - wheeling money around in barrels - the money not being worth the value of the barrel. I see it as what it can get for me

Yeah, but for me the lifestyle is the motivating factor... not the money itself, which is what many people focus on!

I don't want to be a millionaire or really rich, which is something that motivates a lot of people. I just want to make enough money to be happy and do the things that I want to do in life.

I don't think you can have a great lifestyle and be totally poor, but you can have a great life without being really rich.

Focusing on money is a first step toward failure.. because money is not real.. I focus on putting out something that make sense to people but the amount of money that Im making with it does make my blood rush...

Its all metaphysical and nice to say; (esp. when flirting); that its not the money that motivates you... but we all know that money IS a large motivation factor in everything we do..

At the same time, its rather ugly if money is the only thing that is portrayed as our motivating factor.

I think (IMHO) that what all the spiritual books, (real) gurus, (true) life teachers and (mentally & financially) successful billionaires are always trying to tell us up-and-coming folk is that there needs to be a solid balance between the two.

    Passion (spirituality) & Money

Personally... I loves me some dough... but, at the same time I want/need to be happy and want/need my family/friends to be happy and happy WITH me... so, I strive to find that balance and incorporate my seeking of that quest into every decision I make... business and/or personal.

Money is like most things in life. How you think about it is how you think about it. If you have some kind of thought that having money is bad or not good spiritually or it is just a stepping stone to something else or some other kind of less than cool idea, money is going to stay away from you in droves. And when you get some, it is going to find a way to leave you really quickly.
(I am pretending that money has a real personality here)

I sell things at a level to make a profit so that I can get money to buy other things I want. That is not too hard a concept, but for some reason it took me a long time to figure that out.

I don't have to gouge people on price and I don't have to position myself as the low price leader, either. I just give more use value for the things I sell than the cash value of the money people give me. That works pretty well.

Money is the obvious thing that most people would say but it must surely be success and achievements. The two may look the same but there is a difference. I mean getting that illusive no1 google serp or that first sale are just as motivating as some hard earned cash - for me at least.

    Being free motivates me.

Freedom comes in many forms, one of which is money. Since money allows you to do more, have more and be more I call it freedom in green pants.

That being said I'm never driven by green paper. I'm motivated by the emotions of feeling free, being able to do what I want to do when I want to do it. Focus on generating these emotions before concentrating on green paper and the green paper flows to you with greater ease.

It's not the money that motivates me...

It's the time that the money can buy. If you have 2 million in the bank and you lived not too lavishly you could go years without a job and have time...

Plus, money releases a lot of stress and worry and everyone knows that is a killer...

Money is a big motivator for me. We all need money to get by in life. The more money you have the better you will be. For example, with a lot of money you can afford to buy healthier foods, maybe hire a trainer to help you lose weight, live in a nice neighborhood etc.

Having your own business allows you the freedom to do what you want, when you want. When you are working for yourself you can make as much or as little as you want. That is critical in today's economy. You should never depend on a job as your only means of supporting your family.

I personally don't think having a lot of money is evil. There are plenty of billionaires out there who do wonderful things with their riches to help others and to better themselves.

Evil resides within the person whether they are rich or poor. So since I am not evil I am ready to be a millionaire!!

To me, it's all about freedom. And I don't consider freedom to be "working at home". Most people have that "freedom" and it's nothing more than a mirage. Everyday you see people in the WF that had that lifestyle and then realized they were more dependent than ever.

I have a full-time job and a successful web business. I have a tremendous feeling of freedom. Just because you work full-time doesn't mean you're trapped. I have a sizable bank account, I have no debt, I'm fully insured, and I have multiple streams of income that don't depend on me.

At first it always does seem it's for the money. Sometimes even groveling just to pay for necessities. I'm sure we have all been there. But, to paraphrase Maslow's law, money sort of becomes a scorecard for success as it also changes your motivation to be an achiever, independently free, on to self-actualization and finally to changing other's lives for the better.

At this point in my life (for the most part) I already have the money I need (mostly from other non IM ventures) so for me it isn't really about the money. I won't lie and say the money has nothing to do with it because it sure is nice to see success when trying new things, however, for me it's more about the challenge of trying to succeed with those new things and the feeling of accomplishment when you do.

Money is a great motivational tool for me.

However, I feel it's the CHALLENGE that's got me hooked. The challenge of trying new things that are not easy and mastering them to an extent where I can live comfortably off of them.

I've always liked a challenge and I guess I've always like doing things the hard way so although money is a great by product, for me it has to be the challenge that gets me out of bed every morning.

Money, in its physical form, is basically just printed paper (laced with cocaine if you believe some of the news stories). How could anyone be motivated by a stack of dirty paper?

What motivates people are the things you can trade that dirty paper for.

The ability to do whatever, whenever.

The peace that if an emergency can be solved with money, it's an annoyance rather than a disaster.

In many games, it's the means of keeping score.

Even the OP mentioned that money motivates him to provide more value for more money.

I'd say that the recognition of the value provided is the real motivator, rather than the money itself.

They say age brings wisdom. I'm not sure about that, but one thing age brings is perspective. Once you've bought the toys and achieved the level of lifestyle that gives you comfort, more money won't make you happier.

And simply accumulating more money won't motivate you.

Look at some of the really rich people who went through hard times before achieving their wealth. Some of them keep working like dogs to make more money, and it looks like the money motivates them. More than one has confessed that what really drives them is the memory of being broke and the fear of going through that experience again. The fear is the motivator, not the money...

There is no question that for me, freedom to live the lifestyle that I want is my greatest motivator.

It would be silly to say it's not the money, but on the other hand, I don't feel like I NEED the money. I also enjoy the challenge - of putting something out there and seeing earnings come in from my work. That's very gratifying, but it's also addictive! I think maybe that's why a lot of newbies jump around so much from idea to idea, even when something actually starts working. It's like, sure, that worked, but like, I can't be bothered to rinse and repeat that a few dozen times, I want to find something MORE effective, MORE lucrative. So in some senses, it may be slightly illusory to say it's for the money. After all, very few people can really stop and say, right, now I have enough money...

Happiness is all I care about. If I did't have a safe place to live or decent food and clothing I doubt that I could be happy. I probably wouldn't be happy without dependable transportation or without an annual vacation or a night out once in a while.

But that's where I draw the line on my instinctive desire for money. After that I look at what would make me happier. More money or more time with friends and family? A 50 foot cabin cruiser or going to my grandchildren's, nieces and nephews ballgames and school functions? A fancier car or relaxing weekends at the beach?

After the basic requirements of life that only money can buy the next main thing that motivates me is being independent. No boss is good! Being the one who decides what my goals will be today and how I'll achieve them is good! Independence makes me very happy! I'm the best boss I've ever had!

I'm motivated to be successful online because freedom of movement makes me happy! I can take my online business with me to anyplace in the world with an internet connection. I love to travel and the mobility of my online business makes that easy.

So anyway ... maximizing happiness is what I'm all about and I try my best to always remember that making more money is only one of many options for achieving that goal.

Money makes life easier in a way. But it could never buy you true happiness. But happiness can be gained easier or earlier when having more money. Thus money does not motivate me, but the pursuit of happiness does. (isn't that the title of a killer movie?)

Then again it's just fun to see the money on your PayPal account as points. Just make a little competition with one or two of your partners and the one that has the most points wins. All parties did their best to get the most points (money) leaving the winner with the most, Duh! But our special rule is that the winner has to pay for dinner as well!

Money motivates you until you have enough of it.

Then it's just a number. And these days, anything which is "just a number" is actually a score, and it becomes very very important that you get and keep a high one to compare with other people's.

But what's motivating you then is not really the money.

It is become a dark town full of trouble, there is no ease in its streets, beauty has left it and the old songs are gone." - Lord Dunsany, The Messengers

Money motivates me as well in this business. It's the idea for me that I would be able to give to my kids what I could not give before. Also, to give back to the community to those who have helped me and my family.

And yes, having the extra money is nice to be able to do what I want when I want and not worry about how I'm going to pay my bills.

That might be the biggest one of all for me. The freedom of deciding what your daily life is going to look like, instead of 'selling' your time for a pittance to 'The Man'!

      I'm motivated by the "lifestyle".

The ability to choose which days I work, travel abroad regularly, eat at flashy restaurants and buy nice things without thinking twice.

People who know me *think* that I am motivated by money only.

That isn't the case. You just need money to live my desired "lifestyle".

I am absolutely motivated by money, but find that the 'money motivation' only works when I associate the money with a specific goal.

As in I'm going to earn 30K to take 2 months of and tour Portugal (or whatever), works better than I'm going to earn 30K... because... it would be good.

What the money can get me, motivates me

Actually the money is great, but also wonderful is the joy of achieving my goals whenever I set up a website or marketing plan.
