Which is more effective in promotion

1. Help / reply other people in forum and rely on your signature to make money, or
2. Post your service in the classified section in that forum

1 is time consuming, 2 is money consuming. Anyone measure this before? It's good not to waste time or money for something not effective

    This is an Interesting question – I haven't thought of it myself. My guess is that both methods are equally effective. In the first option you have exposure to people who aren't specifically browsing the classifieds' section. But on the other hand, in the classifieds' section your ad is more targeted. Therefore in my mind both methods are more or less equally effective.

    I would say #2 too. And once you get a few happy customers, you add testimonials for social proof and credibility. That's the quickest and most effective route.

    As for #2 I'm not sure there are any "guarantees" in life.

    #1 has always worked for me. The formula is: Add Value + Be Persistent = Become Valuable.

    Following the first strategy can position you as an expert. This means money now and even bigger money down the road.

    #2 simply positions you as a face in the crowd.

    I would prefer no. 2. Though, it needs money, it has larger percent of getting a return than just waiting too long.

    No. 1 is advisable to those who are very persistent enough in promoting the product. The more you spread the signature or link, the more you get a greater possibility of a return.

      I don't see it as an either/or question. If you have the time and the ability to contribute, the answer is both.

      Become a valuable, contributing member of the community and your listing isn't just another face in the crowd. It's a familiar friend among a horde of strangers.

      And for folks who see the listing first, and check you out, your contributions add weight in your favor...

      You can learn a lot with no. 1. The more issues you look at and try to help people with , the more you will learn about those issues. Your ad will also get more cred if you have a decent amount of good posts that help people.

    You can track the effectiveness by creating special links within your posts.

    For example, create a special link for your signature but another link for your ad.

    Then, as people are migrating over to your page you will be able to see where they are coming from.
