Just think of all the local businesses. For instance, there are a huge number of trades - plumbing, electrical, auto mechanics, etc, as well as real estate agents, and more.

Consider any local business and ask yourself 'would they benefit from online promotion?'

From time to time, there are WSOs would go into some depth on this subject. You might have a look around there for a more comprehensive treatment.

      "your town" +
plumbers, hotels, gardeners, window cleaners, local news, florist, electrical goods, garages, restaurants, toy shops, churches, carpet cleaners, electricians, solicitors, estate agents, book shops, undertakers, bridal shops, cafes, candle shops, wedding gifts, sandwich shops, local charities, local forum, doctors surgeries, cosmetic surgeons, dentists, chiropodists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, hair dressers, dress makers, painters, decorators, kitchen fitters, taxis, hire cars, tourist attractions, brewers, cider makers, upholsterers, vets, cleaners, artists, potters, what's on, for sale ads, wanted ads, ...................

In other words - if you have to ask, I'm not sure you are really "up to the job"!!! Or - will your next questions be - "what kind of site should I design" followed by "how do I get traffic to it"

One thing thats local but not area specific that there used to be good money in, I don't know if there still is, is DirectTV and other satellite companies. CPA companies would pay up to $289 per sale, which is kind of insane, but I guess just reflects how difficult it is to get a sale.
