A Christmas Pressie for You - Warning - Strings Attached!

Okay, first off, apologies if this ends up coming out a bit garbled. I've been thinking about it a few days but have the dreaded lurgi and was waiting for it to disappear but it seems to kind of like me.

This post is inspired in part by a bit of soul searching I've been doing lately and also by this thread that I think should be required reading for us all.

So, what's the pressie?

Well, I have a couple of domains that I bought planning to do something with, and then just never did. At least not anything worth speaking of. They are coming up for renewal shortly and I was planning on letting them drop, but then I thought someone else might be able to make use of them much better than I have.

So, they're free to a good home and as a Christmass pressie for my fellow warriors, I am willing to pay the renewal for the next year so you have time to do something with them. This way you get to 'try before you buy' to see if the domain is going to make you any money or not.

I'm also waiting (very impatiently) for my copy of Photoshop to arrive so if you want some graphics creating to go with the domains, then I'll be only too pleased to try and help out with those too. (It'll give me the perfect excuse to play around )

The Strings?
1 ) You can't put yourself forward for this. You can only nominate someone else and say why you're nominating them. If you've been good and are on Santa's 'nice' list, then I'm sure one of your fellow Warriors will put your name forward. (If not, then ok, yeah, you could go ask your mates to do it anyway, but I'd rather you didn't).

2 ) You can nominate anyone you like as long as they're a WF member and have some valid reason for being on your 'nice' list. Whether they're there because they helped you out personally or because of the awesome value they bring to the forum in general, it doesn't matter.
Whoever gets the most nominations wins. Simples. (I hope).

    I nominate AidenChong.

He deserves it because he has brought smile to some faces, including me, in this forum.

Even if you have'nt been active for a while, isn't there someone here who you'd like to 'recognise' and reward for their good deeds?

You should nominate anyone you think deserves it. There are a lot of good people in this world, they go about their lives every day, doing the doing, and making things a little easier or brighter for others as they do so. Unfortunately, they often don't get any reward or recognition for it. Not that they mind, but sometimes it's just nice to let folks know that what they do doesn't go unnoticed.

Sibster, I hope anyone not bothering because they think nobody will bother nominating them doesn't bother. (that's a lot of bothering lol). The point is though that I wanted folks to think about other people and not themselves. Because, in the end, that's what really matters. And if you do that, other people see it and take notice (as you've just shown). What goes around, comes around.

Indeed all the members nominated are worthy candidates. Depending on how many free domains you have to give away, I suggest you have a contest between the candidates. For example – have each candidate write a Haiku (I've become addicted to those … I'm considering creating a website for fellow Haiku-holics ~ haikuholics-anonymous.com) with the domain name offered by you and stating what he would do with the domain name.

For example: if you have a domain name nerds.com and the candidate was considering to use this domain name for a website listing Youtube clips with funny accidents and also including a blog with examples of stupid statements or questions, then he could submit this Haiku for an example:

          nerds.com even more
          listing nerds' mistakes galore
          big laughing for sure

While it's an act of kindness wrapped in self service, here is the problem with your whole idea....

People are going to nominate others who have a 'name' around here. Supposedly those people are already making a living online and aren't in need of a hand-out free domain, seriously, it's a couple of bucks to get one.

The names suggested here are all people who claim they are making money online. If one of the guys accepts your domains, I guess we know who the fake it till you make it peeps are. Crew Chief, Zeus66... I hear they are doing just fine.

Really, anybody with Make X dollars in Y days or something similar should instantly be disqualified.

Why not scan through some of the I'm broking and going to be homeless in a week posts and use your domains out to help someone in need. Take a newbie under your wing and lead them to riches.

If that idea doesn't float your boat... newbie jello wrestling is always an option.

You've got a good point here. I suggest not to disqualify candidates because they have a good income, but instead ask the Rich Guy to choose which poor guy should be awarded a free domain.

I intentionally went looking for someone without a big name. I intentionally didn't nominate my friends or mastermind group members because I didn't want to nominate one to the exclusion of the rest, because frankly, they're all deserving. Point being, don't underestimate the ability of your fellow warriors to nominate worthy candidates, or the ability of the OP to choose worthy candidates.

You know what really gripes me? Someone tries to do a nice thing and someone else has to criticize them and tell them they're doing it wrong. Rather than criticizing someone's kindness, why not do something generous yourself? Be an example instead of criticizing someone else's example.

You know what? I take your point. But here's the thing.

Those who are successful and making a ton of money are still in here, bringing value to people's lives every day, helping out with advice, making folks smile, encouraging them to get off their butts. Personally, I don't think it's fair to disqualify them from being recognised for the contributions they make.

The point wasn't about 'helping out a newbie' or those who can't afford to buy a domain. It's about rewarding those who bring value to this forum and it's members.

And I have no doubt, the successful folks sure as heck don't need the domains. They probably wouldn't want them. But if they get enough votes, they get to have them and they can then choose to pass them on if they want. It may be those are the very guys who could take them, do something with them and give them away next year as something a heck of a lot more valuable than they are at the minute?

I also don't want to make a decsion on who is most 'deserving'. (Trust me, I'm rubbish at such things. I recently adopted a kitten from the local rescue centre and got myself in a right state because I had to leave several more behind).

Originally Posted by Mohammad Afaq View Post

Sorry to disagree Mo. We need to make sure they go to whoever is on most people's 'nice' list. That's why I said, whoever gets most votes, wins. If those folks are as nice as the people nominating them say they are, then I'm pretty sure the domains will end up in the right hands.

Everyone can vote so I can only hope the end result will turn out right. If not, hey, lesson learned for next time.

Dennis, thanks for the vote of confidence in me, but it's my confidence in Warriors that made me position this post the way I have. Plus there is no way I could possibly know all the Warriors here. I doubt any of us do.

The only way to make sure everyone had a fair crack at the whip is to open it up for everyone to choose. And I really just wanted folks to have to think about someone else.

Mo, thank you for your apology, but really there is no need for you to delete your post. Like Jason, I know your heart is in the right place when you want the domains to go to someone who 'needs' them.

But the point is, there are always lots of giveaways where Warriors give or sponsor those who deserve a break. I just wanted this one to go to someone who deserved a bit of recognition instead of a hand up. (does that make sense? Sometimes I really wish we had audio instead of just chat. )

Anyway, I'm rambling so I'll shut up lol. Will leave the thread open for nominations and votes till Thursday night (that's UK time folks) and then that leaves me time to get in touch and have the domains transferred in time for Christmas.

Not that I'll get much time to use it then as my grandaughters will be here. Playing with photoshop might be nice, but it doesn't beat playing with my girls.

And thanks to all of you taking the time to nominate your fellow Warriors.

          I nominate Richard Van.

He's a thoroughly inspirational Warrior, having himself overcome great adversity (which he has discussed openly here, so it isn't secret) to become a successful internet marketer. He's also often extremely kind and helpful to those with great financial problems here, and gives up a lot of his time to advise others.

Shucks Cathy, you have really brightened my day. In truth, the pic is a couple of years old. Keep threatening to get it updated, but it's one of many things I just keep threatening and never actually do?

It might be worth being back in my 20's except I wouldn't have my girls and the thought of having to once again go through the **** I've gone through already? YUK. So no thanks, I'll stick with where I am.

Thanks to everybody who took the time to nominate someone. I'm now closing the thread and off to try and catch the winner so I can get the domains transferred.

For those of you wondering who won and don't want to go read back through the nominations, it is King Shiloh.

I'm totally dumbfounded. Honestly, I was not expecting such an amazing package this Christmas. Sincerely, what I got from San is more than a Christmas present. I got a goldmine and diamond field.

I appreciate San for the opportunity. And I appreciate all those that counted me worthy to be nominated.

I promise to pay it forward at the most appropriate time, through the most appropriate avenue, to the most appropriate people.

I'm very confident that I will put the domains to good and profitable use.

            Thanks.

I nominate Zabrina (a fellow Haiku Poet) for her friendliness, generosity and beautiful literary style. It's nice to see in our day and age young people with a sense of beauty, good taste, high-class manners and genuine kindness. I love reading Zabrina's posts because she never uses any negative expressions or obscenities.
