Why Do People Click This Logo?

Hey, I'm currently working as a marketer for a firm called 7lux.ca

and I recently discovered that their logo was receiving 17% of all the clicks when the clicker is on the homepage.

It's pretty common knowledge that logos lead to the homepage, so why would so many people click on a link (logo) that will lead them to the same page they are already on?

Perhaps, for your targeted users, it's not as common knowledge as you may think? Also, I would expect that % to go up quite a bit with all the Warriors now visiting, and clicking on the logo

My guess is if they came in from a search engine link and they did not enter the site on the homepage.

It has a very tiny portion of organic traffic - less than 5% probably

comparing to your own website using google in-page analytics, is it normal for it to be over 10%?

I just find it odd considering that there's so much more interesting to click on

That's how I navigate to a site's homepage on almost all sites; maybe they are just getting back after looking at something else.

I suppose if they wander over the logo with the mouse and it appears as a hyperlink they expect it might lead to something else.

I cannot say I do it, but when on the home page or any other page links on the page referring to the same page ought to be disabled.

The "HOME" link in their toolbar leads to the "1-home" folder, which IS NOT the home page and is full of missing images.

Which trains them immediately to click on the logo for the actual home page, since nothing else leads there.

I just checked the stats and it showed a total of 48 visits to /1-home, which barely accounts for 1% of the visits

your explanation is actually quite logical - i thought "it had to be it!" initially haha

        That's as expected.

When people are browsing the site, and want to return to the main area, they will either click on the "home" link in the toolbar or the logo above it. They will expect both to go to the same place.

The "home" link doesn't go to the same place. So the clicks that would be going to "home" if it actually led "home" are going to the logo, instead, and making it look like the logo gets a lot of hits.

Also, the logo has that little orange "PLAY" button there. So people are maybe going "ooh, video! Let's see what this logo does!"

And also, if you hover over the Logo, you see FREE SHIPPING in u/case. So people might think it's a hyperlink to a free shipping offer.

My guess is that, quite simply, people don't believe they've landed on the home page. They are presented with a page containing several individual products for sale, and they're seeking the home page with the mentioned special offers, free shipping, etc.

The index page could easily be an internal page on a catalog site.

Thats exactly what i was going to say and i would bet that is the reason as that is the same impression i got when i went to the site and i actually clicked the logo as well .

I think this is what's happening. When I visited the site, I thought I had landed on an internal category page rather than the main home page.

May be those users that do click the logo think that they are not on the homepage. OR they are clicking the links right below the logo but accidentally click the logo instead, since those very close to each other.

I think the menu bar is a little small and there is some error clicks to the logo.
