Quick question re: Using PPC to sell as an Amazon Affiliate?

I'm struggling to find a straight answer to this on Amazon or elsewhere.

After signing up as an Amazon Affiliate, can you promote products on Amazon simply by using PPC (for example on Facebook?)

When you sign up you give them details of your own site, where it is expected that Amazon's products will be mentioned and linked to. I do know that they do not have an issue with affiliate links being used OFF of the site you tell them about (they told me that linking with an affiliate id from an eBook, for example, is totally allowed). However I am wondering if the same is also allowed if you wanted to link directly from a Facebook ad.

Also, I notice that in the HTML generated by their affiliate linking tool, there is a 1x1 tracking pixel. Is this needed for the affiliate link to work and register my commission? Since obviously I can't include the 1x1 pixel in a PPC situation, I can only use my affiliate linkt to get the user to them.

Thanks guys

Here is your answer and quite frankly, it sucks...

Amazon sent this out last year, flat out prohibiting keyword bidding through pay per click search engines.

We're writing to let you know about a change to the Amazon Associates Program. After careful review of how we are investing our advertising resources, we have made the decision to no longer pay referral fees to Associates who send users to Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs & more, Amazon.ca: Online shopping for Canadians - books, electronics, music, DVDs, software, video games & more, or Shoes & Handbags - Free Overnight Shipping on New Styles, Free Return Shipping: endless.com through keyword bidding and other paid search on Google, Yahoo, MSN, and other search engines, and their extended search networks. If you're not sure if this change affects you, please visit this page for FAQs.

As of May 1, 2009, Associates will not be paid referral fees for paid search traffic. Also, in connection with this change, as of May 1, 2009, Amazon will no longer make data feeds available to Associates for the purpose of sending users to the Amazon websites in the US or Canada via paid search.

This change applies only to the Associates programs in North America. If you are conducting paid search activities in connection with one of Amazon's Associates Programs outside of the US and Canada, please refer to the applicable country's Associates Program Operating Agreement for relevant terms and conditions.
If I ended with, "Hope that helps..." even I would have a smirk on my face.

Interesting. I wonder if Facebook doesn't count as a search engine in this context... and also I could just target the UK market perhaps...?

I'm going to try it out and see what happens.

Uou can still promote Amazon via PPC. However, you cannot direct-link your ads to affiliate links. Use PPC to drive traffic to your site/landing page instead. That being said, you need to know how to navigate Google's quality score and guidelines.
