Landing/squeeze page ideas...

Hi fellow Warriors,

I need some help on how to redesign a landing page that I own. Currently the page only has a "submit your name and email to get xxx" type of thing, but I want to redesign it so that I will still ask for their email, but there will also be a medium to long letter for them to read.

How do you think I should do this? My problems are;

1. If I put the optin form above the fold, the below letter won't be read
2. If I put the optin form below the fold, the form won't convert nearly as good...

Do you think I should put two optin forms? Or what should I do?

    Why not?

You wouldn't so much mind it not being read by people who are opting in instead, anyway, perhaps?

Testing will give you the answer, but this may be so.

You can only know by testing.

For myself, when I've tested, I've always done better with much more content on the page, and the opt-in in the top-right-hand corner. This works better for me than a squeeze page. (It doesn't for everyone, though: a lot depends on what sort of traffic it is, collectively, and what has brought people to the page in the first place, i.e. on their expectations).

The thing is, it redirects to the sales page after they fill in, so there is no time for them to read the rest of the letter.

Sure, it's good that people to opt in, but it's even better that they don't opt out... and the letter on the website should - in theory - make them more curious about the content of the newsletter.

Hmm. My "letter" is like most CB sales pages (concentrated, centered letter) but it isn't pitching a product, it's just... something for them to read. What I am getting at is that it's concentrated AND kind of long, so if I put the optin on top of the page, by the time they scroll to the bottom, it won't be visible. Then I'd have to ask "please go to the beginning and enter your information" which doesn't seem very good to me.

      Here comes the question:

Is there a way to put an optin form on a website, so that it's ALWAYS on the top right-hand corner, no matter how much they scroll?

There are squeeze pages that have 2 or more forms: one right at the top for those that don't have the time to read (assuming your headline + offer is good enough to make to subscribe) and another one below the 'sales' pitch.

Once I had a similar setup on an optin page. I was tracking it and the one at the top-right got about twice as many submissions as the other one at the bottom...

    Don't over-complicate it

Use two [2] optin forms (and add a tracking to both of them). Put one at the top, another one at the bottom.

After a few hundred subscribers, you will know which one works better...

    Wow, now that's ugly, haha.

But I guess it should work. I am going to try that (not with 4 optin forms, but 2)

You should be able to find a template that puts the opt in form to the left or right of your letter so that you have both elements above the fold. Then add an opt in box at the end of the letter as well.

Why not embed the form halfway down the letter as well, this will also help to break up the text.
