On avg, How many articles do I need to create for 1 sale/month?

Really want to work some math out while my 10 articles get approved in ezine. I crank out a 500 word article in 15 minutes in a subject I know about. I can do about 10-15 a day, then it starts draining me, but I mean, how much should I expect on avg? Let's assume these are avg articles. Not bad or perfect. I was thinking 30 Articles - 1 sale/month

    It is not that simple...

Every article is an individual, just as every writer is an individual...

One really good article could generated $10k per month... The next ten could generate $0...

As with anything else in marketing, it is a numbers game... Some stuff will be extremely effective, and other stuff will be less than effective...

And at the end of the month, you can look back and see that the whole permitted you to accomplish your goals...

There is no science to article marketing that is empirical... There is only science that says success tends to follow certain patterns, and if you strive to match the success principles, you should not be disappointed with your results...

As a writer, it is your job to bring your best effort to the table always...

Don't be disappointed by failure, but try to learn from it...

And when success finds you, try to learn from that as well...

There really isn't a "number of articles" that can provide a simple answer to this question.

There's a huge number of variables and imponderables involved.

The key point is that when you put articles in directories, other people can take them and republish them on their sites (this is what article directories are there for), so you can't possibly tell how many backlinks or how much traffic you'll get from syndicated copies of your articles (unless of course you choose to use articles that nobody ever takes at all, in which case a Big Strategic Rethink about the model of "article marketing" you're trying to use will help a lot more than writing more articles will!).

It's therefore easily possible for one really good, syndicated article to end up being of far more backlinking, traffic and selling value than 30 other articles put together. For this reason, a "raw number", in itself, is absolutely meaningless: what matters is to learn how to produce articles like that "one", and to stop trying to look at it in terms of quantity.

Sorry if it isn't at all what you wanted to hear, but that doesn't stop it from being true, I'm afraid.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

But, even in humor, there can be truth. And, in this case, there is exactly that.

Yes, the funniest things in life are rooted in truth...

You don't have the information you need for that math.

You can figure out from the numbers you've GOT roughly what it will take to accomplish some MULTIPLE of those numbers, once your numbers are big enough.

In other words, if 50 articles make you a certain number of sales a month, then 500 articles will probably make you ten times that many sales.

You might think that this also means 5 articles will probably make you one-tenth that many sales, but it does not. Small numbers don't average. The larger your numbers already are, the more accurate your predictions will become.

If you have 500 articles making you a certain number of sales, it is even more likely that 5,000 articles will make you ten times that number.

But you need numbers to start with. Right now you have 10 articles making you zero sales per month. According to the numbers you have today, you will never make any sales no matter how many articles you write.

Since this is clearly not true, your numbers obviously aren't big enough yet. Have patience.

I wrote just one good, well targeted, unique, quality, valuable article last month. Within the last 30 days, I have made three sales.

    Go figure.

Not all will be winners, but even the best articles often collapse at the resource box...

    Bill,

A good article, by my standard, is good from head(article title) to tail(resource box).

That makes the article shapeless, good-for-nothing except for the decoration of the article directories and your blog.

I have really done tons of articles like that. I'm glad I have learned one or two lessons from my mistakes, blunders, whatever.
