Another issue with wordpress setup...

I managed to install it through onto the host now but when I go to login on this page: Attachment 6631

When I hit submit I just get sent to a blank page and it doesn't load anything else.

Ideas?

If the attached image is what you see on the web page, it mean the Wordpress has not installed yet.

When you mention "... managed to install it through onto the host", do you mean ftp/transfer the installation file to your host? After this step, you still need to create a database + user id in your cPanel. Then come back to this screen to continue your Wordpress installation.

That's not a login page - that is asking you for your database details. Have you set up a mysql database and user? You need to in order for Wordpress to work - you then put the details of that database into that page.

Are you using cpanel for your hosting? Most cpanel accounts have something called 'Fantastico' look for it in your cpanel. This will allow you to install wordpress with just a few clicks. It will automatically create and register the mysql database and user for you.

Nope, you didn't install anything, sorry.

    Options:
    1. Use Fantastico, as suggested (if it's available)
    2. Learn how to do it manually: Installing WordPress « WordPress Codex
    3. Outsource

Yup. I did the database thing. I had been following this video on youtube.

I uploaded the files is what I meant rather than installed but I def made a database last night too.

Guess I'll play around til I figure it out.

Then you forgot to edit your wp-config.php file... or forgot to rename it (save as...) from wp-config-sample.php to wp-config.php

Check your wp-config-sample.php file, set ur db info. and then rename it wp-config.php [ file is located in your root directory where blog is installed ]

Also, if your host support fantastico installation you can try this tutorial how to install fantastico wordpress

Cheers, I'll give those a whirl.

Ok so I tried something else and screwed it up more then found the fantastico thing on byethost and that seemed to do it for me. I prob have loads of diff copies in my root now tho >_<.

Might wipe and start from scratch.

The wordpress that came with byethost is an older version than the one I downloaded though.

Is it worth going with the most updated one? The byethost one is like 2.5 something and the latest one is 3.03 or so.

Don't worry about that, just install it using Fantastico - it will never be the latest version. Once you have installed it you can login to your dashboard and it will tell you whether you need to update to a newer version or not - if so, all you need to do is click one button and it will update automatically for you.
