How to make a killer signature that converts?

Ive just gotten into the guitar niche and I am planning on promoting my squeeze page which gives a free 'How To' Video in exchange for their email address.

I've read a few courses about using forums as a tool for marketing, but the one thing they never seem to cover (or maybe i've missed it :-) is what a good signature looks like. They show how to find forums, and where to create a signature, but not what to write.

So Im wondering if you could help me out?

Are there any best practices for doing this?

Im thinking of trying something like this 'Free Video Reveals How To Do XYZ. Click Here To Watch It Now'

The first rule is probably your audience. Each forum has different rules as well as different styles of signature. Some forums allow images. Some don't. Some allow more lines of text, or more colors. So the answer is "it can be different" depending on the forum.

If I were promoting the "learn guitar" niche, I'd link my signature to

"get on off that macho s#!t and learn to play guitar"

And I'd hang around forums frequented by teenagers.

hmmm... made me smile CDarklock... but being an old schooler as well, I believe it's:

But then I'm quoting. I want it close enough to bring that song to mind, but not exactly the same. Otherwise, the license owners can come to me demanding royalties. But since this isn't the same line, they have to try and sue for royalties on the basis of the phrase "that macho s#!t" - and I'm betting they won't win.

Your signature should be short and interesting which immediately grabs the attention of the reader. Do not overdo this thing or else you will never be lucky to get hits on it.....

Yes and a new image for you too. LOL

Some people build signatures for SEO only.

I write my signatures to attract a click, and drop a little bit of anchor text on my links for SEO, except here at the WF, since all of my Sig Links point to other WF pages.

Images are king. You should definitely spend the $60. I saw my sales go way up after I added an image with my sig. And center everything. It seems to help when centered.

the short and sweet answer is something that catches the attention of and connects with your intended audience.

It's the type of stuff the word nerds yak about in the copywriting forum.

Since your planning on promoting your site through forum signatures it's something you can play around with and test.

Try out different approaches (direct, funny etc...) and keep track of your traffic.
