Something for the iPad/iPhone users

For those of you who use an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad, here's something that looks very cool. A free Dragon Dictate app. (Dragon Dictate is the Mac version of Dragon Naturally Speaking.)

Dragon Dictation for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

If you want to capture ideas, write articles or product drafts, or any other dictation on the go, this looks like a winner.

Wow, this could come very handy. Has anyone tried how well it works? Many of these only work to 70 % and makes it pretty pointless.

I asked about this in one of the geek forums where I participate, and it seems the thing works well, at least for folks who get decent results from versions of Dragon on other systems.

This might make an iPad something actually worth getting myself.

Well, at least on the iPhone, it'll look like you're talking to someone.

On the iPad, you'll probably look a little silly.

      Thanks, will check it out.

Should be very useful, especially if the accuracy is high.

Apple is finally catching up in the voice recognition market! This technology has actually been in use as a third party service on any cell phone or device for nearly two years.

You should probably hold off for the new model. It will have a front and back camera added

Hmmm. That might be useful if I loaned the thing out to someone. I don't use webcams or anything else for taking pics/video except my actual cameras.

My favorite tool on the iPhone. It makes anything so easy - be it texting, catching some ideas, etc. You can also post twitter updates and facebook status.

You may also want to try out "EverNote". It syncs with Evernote on Macs and PCs and has this note taking via dictation feature which is pretty good.

I use DNS on my PC and Dragon Dictate on my Mac as well as this app.

Unfortunately there's no comparison between the "real" software programs on the PC and Mac and the app.

I get 60% accuracy on the app compared to 99% accuracy on the software.

That said, it's fine to capture brief notes.

Hmmm. The comments from the 'geek' forum I'm in have been consistently good, with people saying it "just works," and is about as good as the full software in terms of accuracy. But then, those have all been from guys, and voice recognition software has always worked better for men than women. Something to do with pitch, I believe.

Yet another proof of the idea that nothing works for everyone.

I was having the same problem until yesterday when I noticed that the app had an update. Now I'd say the accuracy is in the high 90's.

Having worked for 6 months solid on the UK Sunday Times iPad App, I feel well qualified to talk on the "iPad subject".

    Dragon Dictation is bloody brilliant.

I use it almost every day (the iPhone app is identical)

    Cheers,

I use it on both the iPad and iPhone. Works great on both. The iPad accuracy improves with the included Earphone as well.

There's a lot more marketers can do with the iPad that can warrant an investment.

    1. Use Instaviz to interactively create flowcharts.
    2. Dictate articles and ideas.
    3. Record audio presentations
    4. Stream the videos from that last Frank Kern package from your PC with AirVideo.
    5. Read PDFs.
    6. Create MindMaps.
    7. Surf and participate in forums from your couch (guilty as charged).
    8. Use LogMeIn to log into your home PC on the road if needed.

It was the first app I downloaded. Totally love it. While it's definitely not as accurate as the full PC software, it's still pretty freaking good! I've written many of a report during my travels.
