Need a Couple Beta Testers For New Website to Amazon S3 Backup Software

Hello All!

We've got a new php script that I'd like to get some outside input. It will backup part or all of your website to any other server OR your Amazon S3 account! I just need a handful of people and will let you keep your copy in exchange for giving me your feedback. Just send me a pm if you're interested.

Merry Christmas!

Jody

Can it encrypt your website's content before sending, also can it backup MySQL databases or anything from the server settings (like cPanel settings)?

No encryption. Your backups are compressed before being transferred. Yes, you can select to back up parts of your website like mysql databases or do an entire cpanel account backup which would save your settings and all. You can schedule your backups daily, weekly, or monthly and schedule multiple backups selecting the time you'd like it done. The script will email you each time it runs a backup letting you know how long it took, where it went and how large it was. You can also select to break up your backup into multiple blocks for transferring large sites so no matter how big your site is, you can protect it.

        Thanks for the answer.

I guess it can't do incremental backups to save space?

What about deleting old backups? Say you have a setup where you will always have:
        - daily backups from last 14 days
        - weekly backups thereafter for 3 months,
        - monthly backups thereafter for 9 months
        - yearly backups from then on.

Yes, with each backup you schedule you can tell the script how many backups you'd like it to keep. As it adds each backup it will automatically delete the oldest backups saving the ones you want thus saving server space.

    I'm interested - but

I have a specific need. One of my dedicated servers runs a web app updating a mysql database (actually several). The databases are now HUGE (30-40 gig.) and we're having trouble doing a trusted backup.

I'm not sure how to split the backup into manageable chunks without having integrity problems with the databases.

    Any thoughts?

I haven't tested the script with anything quite that large but with the way we've designed this, I don't see why it wouldn't handle it for you. You can set the size of the backup blocks. 2 gigs is recommended. You should get 15-20 backup blocks to comprise your whole backup.

How on earth...a MySQL db with 30-40Gb of LIVE data?

I presume you're running a dedicated server (farm)...?

Thanks for all the help from testers. We've gotten a lot of good feedback. I want to make sure we haven't missed anything. In the way of making things easier, I'm going to post the download link. Once I'm satisfied everything is ready, I'll be taking this down forever, so jump in while there's still a little time left!

    (Download link removed) offer closed.
