Local Marketing Question

I have a client who owns a construction company. We have been successful in getting his site to the top of Google's page 1 for his most prominent keywords, coupled with his city name (local search marketing). Now he's interested in trying to expand his rankings for searches in surrounding communities.

His site has recently been optimized for the surrounding community names, and he has an active Google Places listing. Still, he's not showing up in any of the first five pages on Google for any of the surrounding community names.

Any thoughts on how I might be able to help improve his rankings for these other community names? I know that I'll have to build a link network, but where? A separate blog? Facebook? Squidoo? Hub Pages? Something else?

Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions.

Scott

I know it may be counterintuitive for your client, but it would probably be easier to create separate landing pages for each keyword that you're trying to optimize for. That way you can match your URL, Title, <h1> tags, and content to the keyword, which always makes it easier to break into the top page of Google.

You can always link these pages back to the main page. Good luck!

If I follow you, you're saying create a separate page, each focusing on one of the surrounding communities, and align everything from the URL down to <h> tags on the keywords that I want to rank for.

That's a very good idea! Thank you.

I think linkwheels can help him make stay there.
Linkwheels can really give a boost in the SERP's.
It also works well with local listings.
Web 2.0 properties can really help as they have high page rank.
But make sure the quality of the linkwheel you build is good and strong.
    Otherwise it is pointless.
