How about having a 'normal' content blog but with nested keywords with direct links in the content?

As I was thinking about merging my blog and the landing page I thought why not just have a standard blog which I update regularly on my niche with good content and just put the keywords with hoplinks to products in the content of my posts.

I have seen a few people do this before.

As I was discussing before about whether or not to do review or overviews/landing page I thought this would give me a better alternative as I can give the reader value from my own content while pointing them to products along the way.

Thoughts?

I hear for some products, that are presented properly, a review psge with links can work fine, with organic traffic.

I you are paying for PPC targeted traffic than a stronger converting sales/squeeze page with few exit points might have the edge.

You can set individual wp posts/pages to use 'custom' templates, allowing you to create soft sell pages with some of the distracting navigation removed.

I don't quite understand what you're asking. When you say "landing page", do you mean "squeeze page"? Whether you have a squeeze page or not, and whether your squeeze page (if you have one) is technically part of your blog or not, your blog will have a landing page, and you can put on it what you want. Sorry if I've missed the point, here.

    Why not do both?

Seems the question is whether or not you want to build a list. If you do have an email list, then you can derive the benefit of email/relationship marketing plus give the value from your own content.

Not everyone cares to have an email list, even though they may be aware of the benefits. It's up to you, you can do either one or both.
