Would love to hear what warriors do to find out where the buyers are for a particular niche. Any specific methods you use, or steps you take?

What do you find yourself buying? Those are your niches.

Maybe I need to clarify. What I was asking: If you already have a niche picked out, how do you find out where the buyers are for that niche, so that you can determine what kind of traffic sources to use to reach them?

Find popular forums in that niche and buy contextual or banner advertising on those forums or add a link in your signature

I think what they are trying to say is that with any niche, you have to get into the mindset of someone within that niche. Let's say for example you want to sell high quality reproductions of medieval armor. If you go google that kind of stuff and going down the front page you will probably start seeing some forums that have to do with historic collectors, ren fair enthusiasts, maybe even fantasy role-players (dungeons and dragons type stuff). From there you just embed yourself into the communities. Spend a day or two to read some of the most popular threads and topics. You'll find in a very short time you will become a "mini-expert" and be able to answer questions for others. Most forums will let you put a link in your signature, this can lead to your website/squeeze page. When you are involved with a community and answering a lot of questions with good information you'll be surprised at how many will click on your link. Especially if (for that random niche) it says something like "free medieval armor/weapons buyers and collectors guide". Not only are you giving something for free when you send them to your opt-in squeeze page, but you're also pre-qualifying them as a buyer because the words "buyer" and "collector" are in there. If they click on it you can be pretty sure they are at least INTERESTED in buying something like that. Once they are on your list there is no limit to the kind of medieval products you can promote to them.

      Hope that helped!

Thegotoguy has a great reply that's coming from a different angle than I was talking about. The nice thing about the internet is how many DIFFERENT ways you can find buyers within a niche. Some are free, some cost money. Some take time, some are more automated. The beauty is you can try ALL of them and see which work best for you, and also best for the niche you are in.

That is a very complex question. There are basically 2 ways. The first is good old fashioned search engine optimization (for your top 10 or so keywords or keyphrases) and the second would be advertising.

I suggest starting with SEO and use reverse searching to help you determine the best keywords and key phrases that your customers would most likely search for.

I recently read a really great blog post that covered this topic very well (lost the link or I'd share it with you). Basically most successful sites try to target the top 20 to 30 or so "main" keywords or key phrases. These would be the higher competition key words and phrases that would be the hardest to optimize your site for based upon the high amount of search volume that the keywords and phrases get. Next find up to 30 highly relevant longtail key phrases to optimize for that are not as competitive. Be sure to use the reverse search trick I talked about earlier.

    EXAMPLE
    (Using the Google Keyword Tool)

Lets say you sell candles and you sell them in all shapes and sizes:

    Main Keyword "Candles"
Actual Global Search Stats For The Keyword "Candles" = 1,830,000

So if your main keyword has that many monthly global searches, it will be nearly impossible for you to rank for that keyword. So now we need to find a ton of other relative main keywords to also target.

    What color are your candles?
    What sizes are your candles?
    Do you have scented candles?

Use questions like the ones above to create keywords and phrases to further optimize your site that accurately describes your inventory.

Now find about 30 or so longtail key phrases that aren't as hard to compete for that people are actually searching for.

Do you sell candles for holidays?
    Do you gift wrap?
Do you custom make your candles?

To fully understand the principles used to fully optimize a candle store website around the keyword "Candles", try to search for your own inventory using keywords and key phrases that actual human beings would use to try and find your site.

I hope this helps you and I hope you can understand the point I'm trying to get across. SEO in my mind, is the most effective way to get targeted visitors to your site for free. And if done right, you could start seeing results fairly quickly. Don't forget to build links and write press releases for your site that are built around your keywords and phrases.

    Couple of Standards:

#1- Search for forums in your particular niche, e.g. hot dogs . do a web search for "Hot Dog Forums" ... Promote your offering based on the forum rules .

#2-Develop the SEO at your web site so that you generate daily traffic. Add an opt-in for free info and begin building a list. Submit your offers to your list.

    "Merry Christmas"

Thank you all, for the responses. It looks like forums are one of the favorite tools.

Anybody else has any other practices, or favorite methods to find the buyers?
