How to set up an affiliate program?

Hello, Warriors!

Recently I released a product which I intended to sell myself but a few people who purchased it asked if they could become affiliates of it... but I do not feel like putting this product up on Clickbank.

What would be the easiest and cheapest way to set up an "in-house" affiliate program for an info product? Or should I go with Clickbank?

Thanks,

Alex

Personally, I plan on going with ClickBank so that I don't have to deal with affiliate payouts. Doing it yourself will require you to pesonally deal with any issues that may arise. How do you plan on giving payouts? You can use PayPal, but what about those that want a check? You will have to write out or print checks. As for keeping tabs on the commissions and so forth, there is software that you can download and install on your website.

iDev creates an affiliate software tracker, iDevAffiliate - Affiliate Tracking Software - Affiliate Program Software.

Post affiliate Pro or iDevaffiliate are options you can set up yourself or as Clint mentioned there is PDC. But, although I am reluctant to say this because Mike has done a great job with it, many affiliates will not work with you if your product is on PDC. So many of the merchants simply do not pay affiliates the commissions that they have earnt and head off to the hills with all of the money! This has nothing to do with the great service that Mike provides and is solely down to the honesty and integrity (or lack thereof) of many of the merchants.

So in PDC the publisher has to pay the commissions? I didn't know that, I thought PDC was a straight competitor to CB.

Can I approve or disapprove affiliates with PDC?

Yes, the publisher has to manually pay affiliates through Paypal's mass pay system...or I think, by cheque.

Yes you can approve affiliates or not. You can also communicate with them via the email facility built right into the system.

However, another thing to think about, is the fact that with PDC you pay a fee every time you make a sale. This is IN ADDITION to the Paypal fees and they can add up.

If you already have affilliates waiting in line I would suggest setting up your own affiliate program via either of the software options I suggested in my first post. It will probably save you some money in the medium term.

  • I would build a membership site with a built in affiliate program. Launch formula marketing works great.

I used first two. Third one worth a look.

Though I am using them now, I am thinking of changing to 2checkout.com affiliate integration because they deal with affiliate payouts. So I don't have to worry about tracking and payouts.

I've used Mals-e.com to set-up some of my affiliate programs.

It's free too, which is also a great bonus.
