Hi Warriors,

I am good in writing articles and basic SEO. But I have never concentrated to have a living online. Now I do care and want some advice from all of you.

I am confused with the whole idea of article marketing. I mean what's the best way to do it and what to promote?

I earn $12 per hour in my offline job. So not writing articles for $5 for 500 words.

My work sample:

Why can't you stop smoking? Things to consider

In a civilized world we all understand the benefit of not smoking cigarettes. We the human race have become more educated and concious than ever before to realise the fact that tobacco can be as bad as poison after a consistency of use. But still you can't stop smoking cigarettes even you don't like it sometimes.

So ask yourself why? You are the person to make this decision and there is nothing else to stop you but yourself. So what is that exactly stopping you. There are several things to consider when you are in this confusion.

Influence of others:
Yes this is the worst thing for you to consider when thinking of stop smoking. As a human being we love to get influenced and this is how we learn in our life as well. If your colleagues at work and friends also smoke cigarettes try to avoid them when they smoke or just make yourself stronger in mind. Know that you are in control and there is no one to motivate you. You can win this game just by staying in control.

This is the last time:
So how many times have you said that this is the last time or the last packet. It's a common psychological problem among many smokers around the world. Never say this is the last time. Set a time when you are willing to quite smoking cigarettes and just do it. Don't stuck yourself in a bunch of lies to yourself.

Do you want to quite?
Yes it is a very important question. Do you really want to quite or you are just trying to impress your healthy mind or lovely partner. Think of the benefits and the harmful sides of smoking and ask yourself is it 100% right to quite smoking. If so then just do it or find an alternative to control your baby mind.

The alternative for you:
There are many things you can use as an alternative of smoking cigarettes such as nicotine patches, gums and the best one is electronic cigarettes. It looks and tastes exactly like a real cigarette and saves you from smoking harmful chemicals.

Another alternative to smoking is just forget that you have ever smoked cigarettes. This is the best way to impress yourself and the people around you. Be happy and healthy.

I would really appreciate your advice and thanks in advance.

    Well ...

I'd say get a bit handy in doing basic graphics and start charging $200+ writing professional looking reports and ebooks, and if you wanna get even further get into making power point presentations.

all of the above involve writing and it's far more lucrative than writing individual articles .

    Hamza,

I didn't read your complete article here because there are entirely too many grammatical errors. Seriously, you should get more practice writing before you decide to charge more than the aforementioned $5 per article.

The only reason I say this is because I would reject that article at the $5 rate based on the first paragraph.

I'm not trying to be mean here, just honest.

I wouldn't sell my writing for $5 an article either. Many are more than content to, but, that would require significant investment of time and energy for little upside reward.

I am surprised no one has mentioned what I would think is the easiest way to improves one's article writing skills....Read dozens of quality articles in highly acclaimed sites like nat-geo, CNN and many others.
These sites hire some of the best online writers there are. I bet at that level they even are called journalists. Not to mention that the words you see there are 100% original and not re-organized in some wierd contraption which I find to be rather demented.
I haven't even entered the online bussiness yet... I am simply on this site to get a feel for the situation and see where my best entry point would be.
To be honest, I too was thinking of starting out as an article writer, and I am positive that you would have to significantly improve on your structure and grammar before people would aquire your services.
Hope this helps... Chin up m8, you can do it!

You can try writing press releases since they are usually more expensive than articles.

You can also offer added value so that you can charge much more for your articles. Article directory submissions could do the trick.

Write a report and outsource graphic design. Then write some articles on the same topic as the report. Then you can sell the packages with PLR rights. I am totally sure that you can make some decent money that way. In fact, I think there are people living the dream by writing and selling PLR material

    Wish you success!!!

There are a lot of useless words in your article. I made some simple changes editing this for you. I cut out some words and the bolded words are the changes to the wording I did. I would not put this article on the market (even with my changes) because it still needs some major improvements to it. First off, the title could be a bit more catchy. The intro paragraph needs to be more interesting in order to give the reader a reason to continue reading. Lastly, there should be a better final sentence. Why? Because in article marketing, your goal is to get the reader to click on your link below the article. That last sentence is important in doing this.

There are 3 main keys to article marketing:

1.Catchy keyword-rich title to get people to click on the articleAlso
2.Interesting intro to keep them reading instead of clicking off the article.
3.A quality ending that potentially leads into your "signature box"

Really, all you need to do the rest of the way is write quality content with your keywords strategically placed and make sure there are no spelling, punctuation or grammatical errors.

Don't take this the wrong way, but that article (or the other one you posted) won't get you any buyers. To be honest, I got bored out of my mind editing it. Keep working at it though. You're on the right track, just continue to hone your skills and I'm sure you will do fine. Practice makes perfect! Go to ezinearticles.com and read through a bunch of random articles to get some pointers. You will learn a ton! Good luck!

  • Use "Kenwood SB206 smoothie maker" as early in the title as you can in the future.

ALWAYS use your keyword phrase as early as possible in the first sentence, and also use it in the last sentence.

You also want to use it 1.5% of the time (ex.> 400 word article, 5 to 6 times).

Before writing, punch your keyword phrase into google without quotes, and click on the site in the top spot.

Look at the words used that come up a lot that relate to your keyword phrase.

Do these things and your views per article will increase dramatically.

    Good luck

I’ll provide you a complete critique of your article as it sits right now on Ezinearticles.com:

1 – The article title needs some work. Right now I see you sitting at position number 4 for the keyword phrase “Kenwood SB206 Smoothie Maker” which is pretty good but when I visit your article and see that it was submitted to EZA on 25 December 2009 and has only generated 42 page views it tells me either this keyword phrase has no traffic or your article title is not enticing the folks that do search for this keyword phrase to click through and read it.

So, some work needs to be done on the title. Naturally, you want to keep the keyword phrase in the title but you want to spice it up with some pizzaz. We know that many people drink smoothies for the health benefits they can provide so let’s use that as our selling point in the article title.

I’d recommend you go with a title along these lines:

Is The Kenwood SB206 Smoothie Maker Worth Using To Improve Your Health And Help You Lose Weight

That title is 96 characters long and EZA allows 100 character titles so no issues there.

2 – Next, the description for your article on the organic search engine listings is coming straight from your first paragraph which is a bit boring and doesn’t even highlight your main keyword phrase (Kenwood SB206 Smoothie Maker).

You always want to use your main keyword phrase in the first sentence of your article as this will help with your search engine optimization and organic rankings. Plus, if you notice when you conduct a search on Google it always highlights the keyword phrase that was searched for in the listings it returns so having the keyword phrase in the first sentence allows it to be highlighted which catches the attention of the web surfer.

3 – Now on to your article body where quite frankly there is not enough meat to the article. EZA has the word count for your article at 289 words. You should be submitting articles in the 400-500 word count range in order to make as much use as possible of additional theme related keyword phrases within your article so you have a better chance of ranking higher for additional keyword searches within the organic search engine rankings.

Also, your article reads like a bland review type article when it really needs to have some sizzle to it in order to lead the reader from the start to the bottom in order for them to see your resource box.

4 – Speaking of resource boxes, the resource box you are using is in my estimation not going to obtain any clicks from visitors to your website as it is almost non-existent. Combine that with the fact that article marketing is a numbers game and since you have only generated 42 page views to your article your resource box needs to be crafted to capture each and every reader of your article.

5 – I noticed you have this article posted in the appliance category with EZA. You could post it there or if you enhance it a bit you could also post it in a more valuable category that receives higher traffic such as weight loss, obesity or popular diets. I’d much rather sell a smoothie maker to that market of buyers instead of trying to convince someone who is window shopping for a smoothie maker (that’s what review articles are designed for).

Please don’t take offense with any of my comments as I really wanted to provide some information that can really help you with your future article marketing efforts. Additionally, in order to provide a true visual of what I am saying give me a few minutes and I’ll provide a complete rewrite of your article so you can see exactly what I was trying to convey in my information above.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

OK, below is a really quick rewrite of your original article that I created right after I posted the thread above. It took me about 25 minutes to write and comes in about 468 words.

There is still some room for improvement but I want you to focus on the changes I made and how I personalize the article a bit more. Also notice how the first 2 sentences have your keyword phrase in it and draw the reader in so that they read the rest of the article.

The last paragraph could be used as your resource box but I'd probably create a slightly better call to action in a few additional sentences. I'd feel comfortable posting this article in the weight loss category on EZA.

    Hope this helps.

That said, the seeds of competence are there. You just need to nurture them. I have three suggestions for you...

        1. As others have said, read widely. Sample from mainstream journalism and tabloid trash, from the New Yorker to the National Enquirer. Reader's Digest will give you a wide sampling of writing styles. Good literature and pulp fiction both deserve a spot. Writers like Stephen King, Tom Clancy, Jacqueline Suzanne, Harold Robbins and others have widely different styles, but the they all sell millions of books.

        2. Write a lot. Maybe join a writers' forum or two and get their feedback on your writing. Pick articles or stories, and practice writing your own critiques and rewrites. How do you get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.

        3. Consider taking a couple of classes, maybe one in creative writing or script writing and one in editing. Even classes from the local Learning Annex or adult education program will help you develop your skills

Like I said, the seeds are there. You now need to nurture them before you can reap the harvest...

My own reaction to your writing samples is that you appear to be practicing English as a second language, as evidenced by awkward phrasing and misuse of common idioms.

My advice, which echoes what some others have said: the best way to improve your own writing is to read a lot of other people's good writing. Over time, you will absorb their lessons subconsciously, to the point that you cannot help but become a better writer.

Read George Orwell, H. L. Mencken, Bertrand Russell... the list goes on and on, as English (and American) literature is replete with glorious writing. If you're lucky enough to live near a decent public library, ask a librarian for further recommendations. It's sad to think that one day, likely in the distant future, it will all be blown away by a supernova.

The best place to go there is Cox’s Bazar. It is the longest unbroken seaside in the world with a length of approximately 120 kilometres. There is no better winter holiday destination than Cox’s Bazar. The sandy beach faces the bay of bangle with many other attractions such as hills, waterfalls and beautiful corals.

Watch the sunset on the bay of bangle or go for a horse ride in the sea beach. This winter holiday destination also has many engine running boats to take you for a tour in the sea. If you head towards the south you may see the monkeys running around on the hills and the himchuri waterfall. Himchuri is only about 20 kilometres from the main seaside and has a great appeal for the nature lovers.

A winter holiday destination must not be very cold and the average temperature in Cox’s Bazar is approximately 15 to 20 degree Celsius. The weather is sunny almost every day and there is no rain in Bangladesh during the winter season. Generally the seaside is hotter than the usual temperature and the sea water is never too cold to have a shower. So you can enjoy on your winter holiday with no barrier.

The local foods are delicious and fresh. It’s not like your local Indian restaurant's food. You would definitely want to try the fried dry fish and delicious chicken curries. The fishes are caught daily and served in the local restaurants. The food prices are very affordable as well. For only $5 to $10 a day you can keep your stomach happy and spending $20 will let you eat in a high end restaurant. If you are a vegetarian, then you will also enjoy the fresh vegetable curries and the vegetables are also grown locally. So the freshness is guaranteed for you.

As a winter holiday destination Cox’s Bazar also has hundreds of affordable and good quality hotels. You can easily find a nice hotel close to the seaside and many of them are facing the beach to make the moment even better. The hotels are also very affordable in price. You can live in a 3 star hotel for only $25 a night and if you want to find something cheaper, then $5 a night can also do the job.

There are also other winter holiday destinations in Bangladesh along with Cox’s Bazar such as Shondorban which is the biggest mangrove forest in the world with thousands of canals running around in the forest. You may also want to visit other seasides like Kuakata and potenga for some extra fun.

Bangladesh is not very famous or popular as a winter holiday destination. But it is definitely a wonderful place to give you all the pleaser of a winter holiday.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but this is a discussion forum rather than an editing service. Nor is it an article directory.

If you want more feedback on individual articles, there are many forums where writers gather to critique each others' work. You'll learn more, and learn it more quickly, in a setting like that (where everyone there is seeking to improve their writing) than you will here.

As for the article itself, it's not bad. A few rough edges, but keep practicing. Find that writer's group you can join. You'll get there...

    Excellent points, Tim.

I agree on the 400-500 word range, but at this length it's important to add some bullet points and/or bolded headings. I have found my clients' click rates for articles with a combination of those has been a lot higher than without.

Good catch - I like to use short paragraphs in the 3-4 sentence range combined with bullet points and bolded headings but I was in a bit of a hurry when I was rewriting the article....lol

itsmeantor: You've received some really excellent advice and feedback in this thread.
In particular, TimG's generous contribution will be very helpful if you take his advice.

Good tip and very true, reading as much as you can will help with your overal understanding of writing which can be put into place when you conduct the actual writing itself.

Here is another idea that might help. Try making a contest out of each article you write where your competition is the previous article you wrote. Challenge yourself to continually improve your writing one article at a time and you will find that the quality of your writing will begin to improve dramatically.

I wonder - have you considered writing articles in your own native language?

Because this is a forum for English speakers it's easy to forget sometimes that there are millions (billions) of internet users who don't speak English and who would welcome sites and articles in their own language.

OK - your target audience might not be so large, but the competition would be much less.

            Just a thought.

Normally, I hate threads where posters just pile on the original poster, but this one is in a good cause...

As the movie director said to the aspiring actor after an audition, "Don't quit your day job." The two articles you posted were boring and filled with mistakes. The fact that EZA accepted the second one simply means that you didn't violate any of their guidelines.

I had a good read from top to bottom of this thread. Uh- time for my own comment on your situation, next time use a more catchy title in your articles. That is the first thing people will read in any directories and even in the search engines. Choosing the right title for any article is a must. Do proof read your works before publishing to avoid grammatical/capitalization errors.

Who is she? I tried to conduct a search for her but was unable to find anything tying her to article marketing.
