Hi, if you do affiliate marketing for web hosting service, will you build a list for it?
What will you cross sell ? any other product, maybe domain name?

You always want to be building a list for any niche you are going after. This is really a great question. If you were to build a list like this you'd want to just first really gain their trust in by giving them great info about different hosting and how hosting works and stuff.

After gaining their trust you can sell website development kits or website headers or something of the sort to "spice up" what they are using your website hosting for...

Anything to do with websites can be a cross sell!

Web hosting is a very competitive market, and prospects will shop around with several vendors before making a decision. Like any highly competitive market, you should select a niche that you are comfortable with. What has worked in general, as mentioned above, is to put together a package including web hosting for your niche. Offer related products, services, tips, reports, etc to build your list.

  • Related products and services. Find a free web building service/tool, and bundle that with the hosting. Has worked for web hosts for a long time.

Or, go the 'rent-a-model' route, where you develop sites, and 'rent' out the webhosting.

I do sell web hosting services, VERY successfully, and
I do build lists that focus on those customers needs.

Focusing on customers' needs DOES mean choosing and
focusing on very specific niches. You can't be all things
to all of your potential web hosting customers.

    I offer those customers:

Education On how to actually build a successful business
    Education on website security
    Traffic generation
    Merchant accounts
    Autoresponders and shopping carts
Help in creating and launching their own products

As has already been pointed out, web hosting is a VERY
competitive niche. So, I attack that problem by
making the hosting that I offer NOT a commodity
(identical to what's offered by everyone else).

Great post. We have a similar concept we call our leadin policies. Value added services that lead a client to web hosting. And always building a list.

    Yes, always grow lists.

For hosting, you could also offer services and products related to what's available in your hosting packages - like if your hosting offers Fantastico, offer services on how to set up Wordpress blogs, shopping carts and other Fantastico scripts. Cross-sell ebooks on the same, too.

Sell reports, ebooks, video tutorials on how to navigate the cpanel, set up SSL, databases, subdomains, folders, upload images and videos, etc. There are lots of things you can sell to this market.

Informative...about your question, well yes. In internet marketing it is really ideal to build a list while you are into that market. If you are going to focus in the hosting niche you can try to compare prices, features of other hosting as well.
