Whats the best newbie entry to IM?

Hello Warriors

Me and my husband are new top IM and warriors.
We have started off with affiliate marketing with clickbank products, and have a blog with adsense but dont think that this will even make $50 in a month. We have not really driven too much traffic to it so I guess that's probably our biggest failure at the moment
I wanted to hear what experienced warriors could advise is the best way to start?
Since we are not technical we are having to outsource to get our site built and we are looking for someone to SEO our sites too but at a reasonable price. Have already contact some warriors who advertised SEO services.

I always envisioned having a couple of blogs that would run on auto piolit for us, had a look on flippa as we were going to buy one that was already earning but the cost a fortune!

I am looking forward to speaking with all of you in here and learning alot along the way

cheers

Emma (and Ryan)

      Hello Emma and Ryan

      Welcome to the forum.

My advise would be - don't go spending money on anything (flippa, wsos, etc) before you've been a member here for a few weeks.

Read through this forum, download some free wsos. Maybe join the War Room.

There's more advice here than you can imagine.

The best way to learn is by doing. You already have a site. To start with, do your own seo - this will be a great learning curve, but you will learn more than you can imagine. Once you've learnt then, perversely, you can outsource if you want to.

Ditto with site design. Unless you are after a complicated ecommerce site (selling lots of items) why not try designing the site yourself in Wordpress?

Again, you have a lot to learn, but you will learn by doing.

Outsourcing is great, but in my opinion only really works if YOU know what you are doing first.

        Hi And welcome

Do not - I repeat do not buy anything for a few weeks
Remember the sales pages are designed to pull you in and promise loads

So here is what i suggest in 5

-set yourself a realistic target for making money online - 3 months/6 months etc
-read through different posts/threads here for about 3 weeks
        - choose one method you like and fits with you Blogging/flipping/products etc
        - stick with that for 3 months and make it work
        - rinse and repeat.

To be honest with you it is as easy as that really - most of the methods you read about in here work, yes they really do work.
But , and here is the grind .
Most people jump from one to another and never really give any a good go.

having said that - I now run 3 different methods that all work well but it takes time

try and build a business mindset is key and not the make money fast mindset.

enjoy and ask away if i can help

          Welcome to the forum Emma

There is some great advice in here, particularly in this post.

I think one of the most important things is to do your research and gain knowledge in places like this and then have a PLAN and stick to it!

I know from personal experience that when you jump around from one thing to another you get nowhere. My advice would be:

          1. Decide what type of marketing you are most interested in... what really excites you.

          2. Set yourself some near, mid and longer term targets.

          3. Focus all your efforts on those targets and then start to acquire the skills and knowledge you need to achieve them

It's a truism though that you get back what you put in... there is no 'easy button' in IM.... If it looks to good to be true it probably is!

          Hope this helps.

Absolutely the first thing you should do is join the war room. It will give you a whole new perspective on IM.....Just the fact that you are new and purchased a membership will show everyone that you are serious about starting...

Other than that I would just use your blog to provide all kids of free content but be sure you have something to capture emails and start building a list.

Good free content and list building - then building a great relationship with that list is step number 1

Excellent advice given here. I am also quite new to IM (I started in August 2010) and I quickly realised that at first it is much better to do everything oneself. Setting up a website is very easy. Then if you like writing, write your own articles or any other SEO method. As you website grows, then you might require help, but not from the outset

Hey and welcome to the forums.

Well I'm completely biased towards CPA marketing, very easy to get into and unlike other traditional IM, you are not asking your viewer to purchase anything just simply perform an action like submiting their zip code or email.

Anyway I would advise refraining from purchasing anything on flippa or other pre made websites. Unless you know exactly what you're looking for it's simply not worth it, there are many ways to fake traffic and other stats to make a site look far more promising that it really is, and you could spend quite a bit of cash on a complete dud.

If you're looking to auto blog then check out these threads as they contain a whole heap of information that will be incredibly useful.

You know an excellent resource to start on an IM journey? The Challenge. It's 30 days, it's 100% completely free (with no hidden bull), and it teaches the fundamentals in a way that won't confuse or distract you.

It started as The 30 Day Challenge years ago, and because of that free education some fairly successful IM careers materialized. I'm one of them, and I think Jason Moffatt is 30 Day Challenge alumni also (if I'm not mistaken).

I say this assuming you are quite inexperienced and really need a handle on the basics. Having said that I've repeated this program every year it comes, because the basics taught there are an excellent foundation to build from, and it's good to refresh.

I know Ed well enough to say the man really knows his stuff. He's a certified black belt in IM. He's a tubby nerd, (no really, that's the name of his blog lol) and if you can get past that thick Aussie accent and his occasional bad jokes, what he knows and shares will seriously help you out. You can do the challenge daily or cram it if you're in a hurry.

Have a look, it might be just what you need.

    Hello

Welcome to WF. My first advice is "Don't spend much to buy at the beginning"
try to browse this forum and get an overall idea about IM.

Then try to learn how to select a niche, keyword and make a blog site. After that you can continue with free methods to bring quality traffic to the web site. Then try to work with CPA and adsense. Test and track everything.

    Good luck

    Welcome to the forum.
Start with affiliate marketing for example and build your list from there.
Then start creating your own product and sell them here in WF and outside (Clickbank)

The reason why i said affiliate marketing is: with Adsense, you can collect few cents, but you can use exactly same traffic and earn a lot more.

      As previous answers have said
Do not buy too much until you have read through the many helpful threads in this forum.

In the private warrior section you can get complete money making systems for free. As you have started with clickbank affiliate marketing you might as well stay with that for 3 or 4 months.

Once you are making money with that method you can spread your wings with other money making methods.

Look up Harvey Segal and Alexa Smith for excellent info on clickbank and the best approach.

I just have one thing to add to all of the good advice here: There is a fairly lengthy learning curve in getting from beginner to earning regular income. It doesn't happen overnight. If you are working full time at this, you can teach yourself the basics in two or three months. If you have a day job, and you are doing this in your free time, then it is going to take a year or more.

Be patient, and if things go wrong and a site flops or doesn't produce, don't give up. I had a site that performed poorly in its first three months, so I gave up on it. I looked at it again a year later and was stunned to find that it was getting lots of traffic.

I personally think the best newbie IM entry just may be affiliate marketing... which it looks like you're already experimenting with.

The reason I say that is because in order to make affiliate sales, you still get to learn and follow solid marketing principles to get people to your offer, see how to get them to sign up to a list & what they want to hear from you, understand what makes people tick (their hot buttons) and figure out how to get them to take action, go visit a site, buy a product, etc...

...BUT, you don't have to focus on creating the perfect product for them, and you don't have to mess with customer service yet.

As you're honing your marketing skills to get buyers to an affiliate offer ... you'll really get a feel for what you're good at, what methods you'll stick with, what these people really want & are looking for, and what "holes" are in the product you're telling them about.

Once you're good at this and are bringing in good sales... you can take that research & knowledge and use it to create your own product that fills in all those holes. Then you can start dealing with customer service, getting others to help promote for you, etc.

      Hope that helps!

Welcome to the Warrior Forum! You're on a pretty long and difficult journey to huge dollars. Before I tell you my recommendation on where to start, let me give you a few pointers:

    1. As everyone has said already, don't buy anything just yet. Read around and try to find answers to your questions, but if you're stuck, post and the nice people here will lend you a hand.

    2. You WILL fail, believe me. I am not, by any means, wishing on your failure, but it is an obstacle you will have to overcome. So when you fail, re-access what you did wrong and keep trying. You will eventually succeed.

    3. Please don't give up. Giving up is the easiest thing to do. But it is also the worst thing to do.

    4. Don't fall for the BS that tells you that you can make money with little effort. And don't fall for that "autopilot" stuff either. There simply is no such thing. IM is HARD WORK, but it is achievable.

    5. And finally, have fun!

Now, as far as my recommendation on where to start, I would recommend you go with promoting Amazon products and building Adsense sites. If you want, I can set some free time and give you a few pointers on Skype or AIM (all for free, no strings attached). However, you can't PM me just yet, so feel free to add me to Skype or AIM and we can talk. My time IS limited, however, but I will take time out to help you the best I can.

    Hey Guys,

There are many ways you can start. But, I really don't know what you can start with.

I suggest do everything, and in the end, see the method that works, and use that method to make more money.

Personally, I started IM by posting affiliate links on Youtube videos. I made $127 my first year(2009). I tried many other things, nothing worked

Early this year, I started selling my ebook on Digitalpoint Forums. Guess what, I make more than $127 within a week.

Now, me and my partner, earn our residentual income with Amazon Affiliate Program.

    Hope this helps

Make wise investments. You can always spend money, when you know you are making money. I know making money is what you are trying to do, so I can recommend getting into a business that everyone wants or needs. Also with your blog, you can post in free advertisements sites such as Craigslist and Backpage. Also since you are a part of the Forum, alot of members have joined Twitter. It would be good to set up a profile with Twitter and start gaining followers. If you can get into the popular social networking fields of marketing, then you should have no problem working towards building yourself some heavy duty traffic towards your site.

    My tip would be:
    instead of going for a large, highly competitive niche, try to find a less common (but still profitable) problem, and a solution(product) for it;
    optimize your site around terms related to the nice, and work on SEO;
I would also look into PPC once you optimize your landing page till it has a decent conversion rate.

      Good Advice.

When you are new to Internet Marketing, you don't have as much "Fire power" as some of the people who are in the big leagues. When it comes to money, they don't care how much they need to spend to stay #1. I'd pick something very very small, but like imkazu said, pick something that is small but profitable.

Rande, i would recomment to limit your investments to minimum. You don't have to buy everything on the web that promises you high income. You can do some basic SEO by yourself. There are a lot of materials in the internet that teach how to do it: web optimization and back links building.

Emma and Ryan, welcome to the forum. Since you seem pretty new to the IM arena, I'd caution against buying anything just yet. Take the time to educate yourself first by observing and asking intelligent questions in here (which I see that you're already doing!)

If you're still itching to buy something, the only thing I can endorse purchasing at this point in this time is War Room Membership here...it is only $37 and there is a wealth of information in the War Room that is literally worth thousands if you peruse and apply it!

    Hi Rande

Here's a question for you, what type of business experience do you and your husband have in the "real world"? Often people dismiss their jobs, careers (two different things), hobbies, passions etc. as a means of a potentially profitable business in IM. In other words, what type of mad skills do you already have?

      Hi Lauri,
Hubby was a tiler but he has gotten sick and unable to work in his trade (blah blah blah another hard luck story) I have worked for the govt for the last 8 years in a soul sucking position that literally drained the life out of me, sooooo depressing and horrible.
Which brings me to this point in time!
Jasonwestwick gave us some great leads to threads that Ryan is reading about setting up blog portfolio. He has set up a couple of websites but he is a beginner and still needs help along the way, but for a tiler who has just started learning this other world I reackon he is wicked!
Since posting this thread we have honned in on what we want and how to get it (ha ha ha i think) 2011 a new fantastic year
      Thanks for your time

I'll add to the votes for you to take a look at Ed Dale's Challenge.

The Challenge (Do yourself a favor and subscribe using iTunes, makes it much easier. Get both the video feed and the transcript feed.)

Second thing - Go to Paul Myer's (highly suspicious moderator of the Warrior Forum) website and get a copy of "Need to Know". Focus on Chapter 0 (Yes, zero), and on the Chapter on Leverage.

TalkBiz News: What you really need to know to succeed online - Online business building newsletter (Seriously folks, I am not trying to promote Paul, I simply found the book very thought stretching.)

Third piece of advice, follow these people on the forum very closely:

    TimG - Article Marketing
Zeus66 - Article Marketing, Blogging, and solid common sense.
Alexa Smith - The alternative view of using articles.
TPW - Alexa's co-conspirator on the alternative view.
CDarklock - Alternative view on everything, but manages to spew out wise words often.
Paul Myers - Read "Need to Know" and you will understand why.
Istvan Horvath - WordPress - If you need to know technical details he knows the answer.

I could keep going, but if you start watching the threads that group posts in you will start finding amazing jewels of wisdom. GUARANTEED.

Carefully ignore everything I say....You just never know who to trust...Until you read enough of their posts to find out.

Last piece of advice. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT JOIN THE WAR ROOM YET. Read a ton of posts from the group above, and other Warriors first. Get an idea of how you would like to work, and then consider joining the War Room. It is OVERFLOWING with great information and without a plan before entering you will be overwhelmed. When you enter with a plan you can choose the proper materials, evaluate quality, and grab what you need then get out fast.

Focus on a method and stick to it...

    Hi Emma,

I always tell people who are new and looking for a starting point is to look at the viable models that have worked for others and just emulate them. If it works for them, it'll work for you too!

So the best way to find these golden nuggets is in the main forum click on the "Ratings" tab and then you will see the 5 star posts. You'll find War Room quality posts without having to pay any War Room prices!

Take some time and find a model that really appeals to you and that would compliment your current skill sets. Then all you need to do is just focus and take action!

And I hadn't even caught onto that yet. Guess I learned something valuable here today also.

Welcome to the forum. You have received so much great advice and suggestions. I second the comments that say dont buy anything just yet because it can be overwhelming. And, definitely don't buy a bunch of WSO's at once because that's SUPER overwhelming. Over time you will come to know the WSO providers that you know if you do what they say, you will succeed over time. Define your realistic definition of success but stay optimistic. Commit to growing your business every day (traffic, lead generation and list building) and you will look up and have met your goal with due diligence! Best wishes!

      Everyone has an opinion!

      Here's mine...

1/ Learn the basics. Several people suggested Ed Dales "Challenge" and that is a great place to start.

2/ Pick one thing and stick with it until you've mastered it. Then repeat.

3/ Be patient. It's like anything else, you have to learn your craft, business, etc. before you can succeed. There are no magic bullets.

Personally, the model that I prefer is building a list. Nice sustainable business model. You can sell either your own products or affiliate products, or both.

Think about this for a moment (I stealing this from Geoff Shaw)...

If you create an info product and sell it for $47 you only need a 1,000 sales to make $47,000.00 in a year.

That's about 3 sales per day!

      This is realistic.

      Anyway, just my opinion.

I wish everyone and their family a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

Be prepared to work every single day on your business. I have found that consistent action, just a small step every day, is what leads to success, online and off.

Even if you spend the next month reading posts on this forum and checking out all the free stuff you can get your hands on, that's taking action toward success.

Oh - and watch out for paralysis by analysis - give yourself a date by when you will choose something and start implementing it.
