Does Anyone Here Run File Hosting Site?

I've often thought about running a File Hosting site similar to those like RapidShare, HotFile, MegaUpload, etc but don't know the process of setting one up and legalities that there may be that I need to know about beforehand. So has anyone here run or ran a site like this? If so, can you give me a brief run down on what I need to know to get started or point me in the right direction?

Thanks to anyone who helps.

    Mike,

These kinds of sites have a ton of red tape to deal with.

    1. You will need someone to handle all your DMCA takedown requests.
    2. You will need a legal person for the suits, threats etc.
    3. You will need DEEP pockets to pay the bandwidth bills.
    4. You will need a techie to throttle that bandwidth.

People will post everything from trade secrets, stolen content to child pornography on your servers s you need to be prepared for that.

Most hosts will not allow you to run this kind of service because of the risk involved, DDOS attempts etc.

I am sure there is an upside to running them but if it's just money I can think of way better ways than this.

Just giving you my initial thoughts. That is a tough biz.

Thanks Brad. I didn't really consider to kind of material that may be uploaded. So yeah I could imagine this kind of service may end up being more pain than anything else.
