One of the niche's I chose to promote with my own site and with affiliate ads was anxiety. Since I was a newbie I did not know how to check how many people were promoting this subject. My questions is it better to promote something like under water basket weaving or a subject the big boys are promoting. On the keyword anxiety I am against webmd, howto, lookuo etc. u get my point. There is know way I could ever achieve the amount of backlinks they have. Don't get me wrong I know there is other ways to promote your project with just search engines. I also post to a lot of forums, article submit, and blogging. Bottom line question do u stay away from Quote " The Big Boy Niches "

No. You can follow the big boy niches, you just have to do it with other ways and not with a traditional, conventional Web site.

I personally don't worry about who's promoting what, if I want to promote something I will and using the most competitive keywords in the most "competitive" niches however, if you're new you could do well starting off with a few not so competitive niches and then try a competitive one.

For me, it was better to promote underwater basket-weaving when I was getting started.

I'm now promoting some much more competitive niches, but I'm not often and intentionally using keywords which would make me compete with sites like WebMD and so on.

There are less competitive niches, and there are less competitive ways of promoting more competitive niches. (Competition is for keywords, rather than for niches.) Both are potentially good.

Competing with WebMD and Harvard Medical School and the Mayo Clinic and Pub.Med. is a waste of time. (For me).

Yeah the "Big Boy Niches" are VERY competitive, but they are usually the most profitable if done right.

      Best of luck,

Some people make stuff happen, Some people watch stuff happen, Some people ask, "What Happened?"

I have found it to be far more profitable to be the big fish in a small pond rather than just another small fish in a big pond.

It's important to watch the big boys and see what they are doing. Are they selling a product or are they giving advice and relying on other monetization methods? What is their message? Can you copy them?

You can most definately jump in with the big boys. The worst that will happen is they will kick your ass and you'll learn some valuable lessons along the way. However, ranking for "anxiety" in the SE's is going to be extremely difficult if not near impossible.

I'd advise other traffic strategies and not worry too much about SE traffic for such a broad, competitive keyword.

Usually big boys make more money because they already made their homework, so you can spy on them and use the same tools and keywords with some twist, dont do exactly the same, be creative.

And of course if they are on that niche its because they are making good money, so you can too!

Big boys niche is the proven and tested niche. You can do well as long as you make your own formula. Dont just copy and paste other people's system. The less crowded niches has its own advantages though and it is still up to you on how you will discover your own success.

don't jump in the pool with the big fishes, they will eat you in no time (if you are not wearing a protective covering) .... BUT ... you can get this proper covering by using a total different strategy to market your product or whatever, that the big fishes cant even think of!!!...TO start with IM, try niches that does not have much of a competition ....
