Domain name evaluation

Hey guys,

What's the best tool to evaluate domain name's value? I have few domain names that I plan to sell but don't know what to charge.

Regards,
Anup

There isnt really a definitive way of estimating a web domains value.

It all depends on the niche, traffic and rankings!

Just figure in the amount of revenue a site is making now and the potential for revenue in the future.

So if a site is making $500 per month in various avenues like direct product sales, adsense, etc. and has been doing so for the last 6 months steadily, then you could probably get somewhere around $6000 for that site. But this depends on the niche, ability to maintain that revenue, etc.

But in the end if you know a site can easily generate $x per year in revenue, the you should be able to sell it for that much. If not, you are better off keeping the domain or site.

Now if it is just a domain you are selling and no content is attached to it, then the only thing I can think of to put a specific value on the domain is keyword search volume.

So if you have crazydomain.com, and the exact phrase "crazy domain" is searched for 1000 times per month, it could have a perceived value of $x times a 1% conversion rate per month to a potential buyer.

So a $97 x 1% of 1000 (10) = $970 per month. So I would think you could price that domain at a similar price.

I don't have any proof to back this up, but from what I have read in site flipping guides and things like that, the rule of thumb for websites value is anywhere from 6 to 12 months revenue. As far as domains are concerned, I would never myself pay more than $1k for a domain all by itself.

Of course another factor to throw into the mix is consistent traffic from search engines and backlinks and other SEO tasks that have been completed for the site or domain.

Hope that helps... that was just what I came up with off the top of my head.
