      Thanks imkazu,

Actually, by default "Home" is not listed as a page inside the admin dashboard.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

        Hi -

Let me see if I can answer this...

Create a page and name it what you want it to be called. I wasn't clear whether you wanted it to be called Home or didn't want it to be called Home.

Then go to Settings / Reading in your Wordpress site

Click on Front Page Displays: and choose Static Page

Then if you want your Posts on that page, choose that page under the Posts page option

If you want the Home page to display something other than the posts, choose it in the Front page option.

If you choose the static page for your Front page and you are using your Wordpress with Posts, as well, you will then need to chose a different page for the Posts page.

NOTE - I am using the Artisteer + Templateer theme combo, so I have a LOT of options not available to others. If my answer doesn't apply to other themes, many apologies!

        Hope this helps!

Thanks for this TinkBD, I have tried using Artisteer too. I am currently using the Headway theme.

That was exactly what I did but the problem is, since I created a new page to be the Front Page Display, that page will be seen in my menu too.

Is there a way wherein we could just select which pages to be seen in the menu?

          Thanks,
          MagicLouie

            Hi ML -

            Use the Exclude Pages plugin

A comment about the Templateer + Artisteer combo. It allows you to easily build custom menus across the top and in the sidebars.

If you want to contact me by PM, I would be happy to show you some of my sites where I have done this. I am discovering that Templateer adds a tremendous amount of functionality to the Artisteer options.

That way works, although couldn't you just go into your theme, go to whatever the "main page template" is and change the default name to Home?

Usually it'll be a WordPress code cause it's calling the name, but if you always want it to be different it doesn't really 'need' to call anything, does it?

Depends on your theme on how that's set up.

Some themes have an option in the admin panel to turn off the "home" function. If not, you'll have to go into the theme editor and take it out manually from the header.php file.

You might be able to create a custom menu with the Menu function in wordpress also. Use that for the header and see what happens.

EDIT: DAMN IT! I wasted my 1000th post on this?!!

Some themes are hard coded so you might not be able to remove the it,but if its not then WP admin area open editor and select header.php. Locate this line that looks something like this php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php _e('HOME') ?

Change "Home" to any text you like to appear. I personally would remove this line #<li><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>"><?php _e('') ?></a></li> and then create new page and make it static. Hope that makes it work for you

I vote for the above solution as it will work with most themes.

The word "Home" is a standard usage for a website home page. As such, you might want to think twice about changing the name.

Being able to do something doesn't necessarily mean it should be done .

Marvin, lets say you speek other language then English and you have to change home button for people to understand. Well maybe thats not the case, then what does it actually change to your web seo if you change it ?

I'm not sure the SEO would be affected, but if the language is English, it could make the page non-intuitive to users. And since Google is hot on user experience, changing the term "home" to something else might affect SEO from that standpoint.

You certainly bring up an interesting point though.

If you are using Headway, did you know their website has a forum inside their site that deals with the topic you are struggling with? I just bought Headway and they are heavy in supporting all people who are using their product.

This is just my opinion that people are wasting way to much on creating page that looks great. What for ? What you invest your time doing it and you only manage to get to top 11,your site is not making any money. All this was for nothing. Why not to select simple theme with capabilities to modify/add banner and everything you need when you see yourself in top 5 SERPs ? Rather put that effort into on page SEO BL etc.
