Sometimes I'm wondering if all this Internet marketing stuff is just a scam. I'm confused with all the information around that I don't know which one is legit and which one is fake. I'm trying to connect the dots but I'm getting more confused. I don't know where to start. I don't know which method I should stick to.

I can totally understand where you can come from. There are so many opportunities and to be honest there is no one way to make money online. That's why I like it so much... because there is all these different roads to the same goal.

    Here's my advice.

    1) Don't give up. You can do it. I know people who have been floundering for years and then, it all clicked and it all came together for them and making money was so easy.

    2) Stop buying stuff.

    3) Do what they do not what they sell. This is one of my favorite.

    4) Find a mentor who you know is successful and stick to that plan.

    You can do it.

    I hope that helps,

What's the best way to find a mentor in your opinion, and how do newbies know that mentor really knows what he/she is talking about?

Well I think if he or she has had some kind of professional accreditation, corporate experience, education or has written a book that is a good indicator.

Of course there are people who know there stuff who haven't worked for large companies or have university degrees. The fact is though chances are if you had a successful career OUTSIDE of internet marketing and you willingy went into it (i.e. you left a good career), then you have had success.

Also though anyone with any kind of mentoring program should have a list of former students who would happily speak with you.

        Hope this provide some insight...

Only problem with what you are saying is that if the OP knows nothing like he implies, how is he going to write his own product? Don't ya think the OP should find a starting point first and learn how it's done first? I think so.

To the OP: You need to read...a lot! Take the time and go through this forum and read. One thing I will tell you is that you need to find a problem. You need to find someone in a market that has a problem you can solve. When you find a problem that someone is having, look for ways to solve it.

You can either learn to create your own product that solves the problem or find an affiliate product to promote. (Probably best to start out as an affiliate first though.)

You can learn everything you need to here in the Warrior Forum. Just pick something and start reading. Good luck to ya!

Knowing nothing about a subject doesn't seem to be a problem in most IM ebooks. Buy a PLR product, rewrite and sell. Or just rewrite the same old research keyword -> find product on Clickbank -> write article.

        To the TS:

Seems like you need a bit of motivation in the form of actually making a few dollars on the internet to make you believe that more can be made. You don't need to buy any courses to do that.

Search for 'Bum marketing' and 'X-Factor Adsense' on this forum and you will find two easy methods of making your first income.

Yeah and that's why there is so much crap floating around the IM market. Even if you buy PLR, you should have some kind of knowledge about your market and product.

If you are going to rewrite something, and you don't want it to be just another pile of s***, you need to know something about it. It's called offering value and quality to your market. This is why so many people think IM is scamming people.

The easiest way to see if its real or not is to sign up with a couple networks, find an offer that you know some of your friends would be interested in trying, get a simple wordpress webpage up, put the banner and some content on the site and have your friend complete the offer. If they complete the offer correctly, you should get a lead / commission.

In my opinion, that would be the least painful way to go. I would say start out with an offer that requires a credit card submission. Sometimes email / zip code submissions are scrubbed but credit card offers usually go through.

Everyone is trying to make money. Just do your research before you invest alot of time and energy into something.

    Hope this helps.

The best advice I can give you is to keep learning SKILLS not METHODS. By that I mean the basics - learn how to set up a simple website or blog, how to build traffic- keyword, product, and niche research, gradually building sites in different niches, thinking about writing your own short reports and ebooks.

The most important thing for any method to succeed is patience. No thread will teach you that...not even a mentor can imbibe that in you.

Put in your efforts. Keep working, you will get results..sooner or later

    Good Luck

I'd suggest figuring out what direction you want to go with first.

Help promote other people's products (affiliate marketing) ... create your own product (help solve a simple problem lots of people have ... write it down, format it into a downloadable report, sell it) ... write/provide services for other people ... sell advertising space on your own site .... ???... etc.

Then start searching through the forums here and finding similar methods/suggestions that keep popping up to help you carrying out the direction you want to go.

Take notes of the things you keep seeing pop up (writing articles, landing pages, finding "hungry" groups of people, etc). When you see a pattern of people using those things successfully... you'll know they work.

Then start trying those things out yourself and get going.

I know that's fairly basic advice ... but it'll help you weed out the flashy junk pretty quick and see the basics that truly work for lots of people. Focus on those things to shorten your learning curve.

      So what's the question?

The advice you'll get will be reflective of the quality of your question.

That said, there's only 2 replies here worth listening to. I suspect the OP is looking for guidance, not suggestions on how to make money. Reading between the lines, he is confused about what works and what doesn't. And frankly, none of us can answer this for him.

      So here's my suggestion:

Find out what you are good at and stick with it. The biggest mistake you can make is to jump around from method to method.

Research and see if you can find something that you can handle... learn everything about it and take action.

      Give it time to grow.

I have been doing IM seriously for almost exactly 3 years. I'd dabbled before, but only with selling my own beginner's computer course online.

I'm self-employed doing lots of IT'y things, so IM isn't my full-time occupation - yet.

This last year I've averaged $500 a month online (which was my goal) and my best month was nearly $700.

I think I've tried most methods online, and with time have come to know which things work for me. Now I know that I have a much clearer plan for 2011 than I did for 2010.

Building up a long-term business takes time. It's really easy for people to say things like "you need to do blog commenting" or "you need to do xxxxx" - that's fine if you enjoy xxxxxx. Some tasks in IM take hours and if you don't enjoy them, you won't do them.

Part of building up your business is working out which bits motivate you and you enjoy, so that you can work on those. I now outsource my seo, but at least I learnt what it was and how to do it before outsourcing. My outsourcer loves it, I find it sooooooo boring!

Take time and find out what you want to do. You create your site, build content, attach adsense or affiliate adverts and drive as much traffic as you can.
If nothing happens, return to the forum and ask new questions.

Most of these posts contain content where the author (and contributors) give you their IM methodlogy or playbook to emulate. Just pick the one that looks like a good match for you and then just put the blinders on and take action.

Internet Marketing is not a scam. After all, the things you have bought on the internet...somebody gets that money right? If someone has sold you something on the internet, it means that internet marketing works! The question is - do "get rich quick schemes work"?

you're suffering from OWTMI syndrome....Overloaded With Too Much Information

Stop buying and reading too much, start applying what you've learned....and if you happen to fail, try it again, and again.

Key#1......the so called "get rich quick"...that's a scam

This is common. Part of the problem is there aren't any rigidly held standards in the IM industry.

I'm of the opinion that there needs to be some kind of "IM MBA for Newbies" course.

The fact of the matter is, if you created a mind map, on the subject, really there are only 3 basic "buckets":

    -Traffic
-A Product (yours or someone else's)
    -Conversions

The issue for most people is that they come into the industry and they get deceived into thinking the only thing they really need is MORE TRAFFIC.

Secondly, no one really spells out of for people how to go about determining WHICH TRAFFIC TECHNIQUE IS RIGHT FOR YOU.

The biggest "secret" in the industry is that most successful companies and product owners use Affiliates as their no. 1 traffic source.

    Think about it.....

The next time you get an email about a traffic source, who did it come from? Chances are from AN AFFILIATE.

So think about those (3) things listed above. Then make a list of everything you know so far about those (3) things. THEN, start asking experienced people "what questions should I be asking about those (3) things..."

    Hope that helps.....

If you let yourself lose hope, you'll quit trying to find a solution to the problems you're currently facing. Please do not allow this to happen. Stop trying to connect so many dots at once. The process takes time. I know from personal experience how difficult the process is, but it is definitely worth the effort. I am able to tell you this only because I did not give up. Don't deny yourself the chance to get to this point as well. Best wishes to you.
