Need help with this purchase-related statistic Amazon shows on every product listing...

Hello Warriors,

I was looking over at Amazon for a product that I wanted to purchase, and I saw something that got my attention.

I've seen it there since ages, but it just striked me today to actually try and what find out what those percentages/statistics actually mean.

Let's take the "Product X" which we're on the page for. "62% buy the item featured on this page".

Does it mean that 62% of the traffic to that page is converting into buyers?
OR
Does it mean that 62% of purchases made on Amazon after people land to that page end up with that product being purchased?

Thanks for any inputs on this. Also, any more questions that might be useful to IMers on Amazon's pages are more than welcome on this thread, as all of us can get a few more lessons.

Happy Holidays

  • It means that of all 4 related products, the featured product was purchased 62% of the time.
That does not mean 62% of the people who landed on that page converted to buyers for that
    product. Hope that helps?

    • I'll just rephrase it to see if I get it right and would request your confirmation on the same.

What you're saying is off all the people that landed on that page and among the 100% purchases that happened on Amazon so far for that product and the relevant 3 products, 62% were attributed to the main product?!
An assumption I make here: The purchase(s) happen on the same day or the same browsing session or before the Amazon cookies of that day's visit got expired.

I'm asking this because I go to the page about Related Product X, and see that off the people that landed on that page and made a purchase on Amazon accounted for 73% of the purchases for Related Product X.

So... did I get it right? Also, is the assumption right and does it factor in just that way?

I know I'm going way deep into it, but just trying to understand.. to see if any tweaks to maximise earnings on my site can be done.

  • One other obvious thing that info is telling you is what other products people are buying in that category...that can be very helpful info if it's used properly.
