So I'm thinking of starting a self-improvement site...

Obviously the biggest content site online for the subject of Self-Improvement is SelfGrowth.com and I know I can't compete with that monster at this time, but I'm thinking of creating a similar content site on the same subject.

My goal is to load it with all original content, highly related affiliate products, maybe some Adsense, but to keep it clean and user-friendly.

There are all kinds of ways to monetize a big content site in the "self improvement" niche.

In your honest opinion, if a guy were to work on that site every single day for several hours, maybe outsource some of the content, design, etc....

How long do you think it would take to bring, on average, $100/profit per day or $3k per month?

The big site of SelfGrowth I mentioned above does something like at least $4 million per year or something crazy like that. Just insane.

Surely I can get just a fraction of that piece of pie

If you work hard daily and create quality content, 1 month to 2 months. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions, but here's what I'd recommend. Do a lot of good keyword research so that you aren't competing for words you have no chance with, then try to write 1-10 articles a day (Monday through Friday). Schedule them to post one a day, then submit them to Ezine articles, go articles, and article dashboard (more if you have time). Once they've gone there, turn them into videos with cam studio and submit with tube mogul.

I'd also suggest that you sign up with a twitter account and get all of the social media buttons in your content (follow, retweet, like, etc.) You'll get a ton of traffic in no time :-)

    Hope it helped

So Sean you are saying to create unique articles for on-site content only...and then also do different articles to submit to directories, turn into videos, etc?

You can submit the same article to the directories; there is no dupliacte content penalty. You are simply syndicating your content and using the directories for traffic and backlinks, after about 3 months your site will start start to outrank the article directories if you work consistently.

Also note that the reason I suggest adding only one a day to your site is in case people sign up to your RSS feed. If you post 10 a day, your subscribers will get 10 emails (very annoying for anyone). However, if you don't plan on having that kind of subscription option you can add as much content as you want daily without worrying about annoying people.

As far as videos go I always use the same article. In fact, turning articles into videos is the only real use that I have found for PLR articles; just change the title of the video. Always reinvest to make your life easier too!

All the best ! Nice to find people who have practical goals to earn 3K a month.

Hey .... Somewhere I too am on the same lines of thinking Probably we can share a lot with each other.

    My thoughts:

First, decent branding for your site and all the material what you develop ( online, print, audio or video content)

The work should be process driven ! and no distractions for at least 2 years.

    1) Good keyword Research
    2) Reader centric, Useful Content ( no Garbage at all )
Content -- should be divided on what has to go onto your website ( for on site SEO) and what has to go onto the article directories ( for back link purpose)

send it to your friends and family - rate the usefulness of the content

    3) Convert this article into a pdf ( a picture can make it better) --- upload to doc's share
    4) Convert the article into PPT -- main points + pictures -- upload to slideshare
    5) Convert the PPT into videos -- Traffic Geyser to Video sharing sites
    6) Logical Bundle of articles - make it a white report or an ebook -- Upload it to torrents
    7) When you feel confident about the content -- place a paper advt, and do or get a FREE seminar done. Make them all your FREE members.
    Video record this live seminar

    8) Sell online one time membership for life ! ( seminar is included) Say the seminar is worth $ 200, you sell the seminar + life time ONE time membership for say $ 47.

    9) Send out mails to the people who attended your seminar - to make money( affiliates)

    10) Raise the Bar --- interview other gurus ( By now I'm sure they want more than you want them

    11) TRAVEL !! attend as many seminars and conferences. I'm sure you'll meet great people and fascinating things will happen.

Meet you in one of those conferences

Hey Sandy, thanks for all the tips, excellent stuff! I've got my work lined up for sure, but that is ok. I'm getting tired of doing niche infoproducts in markets I don't have passion about. I love the self-improvement niche.

I started a similiar big blog in this niche back in the day but ended up selling it. I wish I hadn't now. Oh well, I learned a lot from it and now I feel like I will be in better standing with a full-fledge site that I stick with over time. PLUS...I'm sick of dealing with Google on the Adwords front. What a joke that is becoming. I'm liking the idea of free traffic.

Dayne, maybe you would like to Niche it down a little bit? Self improvement is too broad, try targeting a certain smaller audience. People like personal stuff.

If you hit your audience properly you might start earning a lot from start, if you have products for that certain audience that you can sell too. Affiliate is a bonus.

    Hope that helped, cheers

Yes, I totally agree with you. My site is going to more focus on not just self-improvement, but on self-happiness. So I want to focus on things like meditation/mindfulness, relaxation, self-esteem/self-confidence, relationships, and health/exercise. Those will be the biggies.

This is a wonderful niche with a BIG potential for the future. I would add a web store with downloadable products at a special price, for the sake of getting known among your potential customers. Also, I suggest you have a forum for building up an online community and as a platform for showing your own expertise in this niche and thus building up your professional reputation.

Believe it or not, but Kan knows someone who is the owner of a really popular blog. When I asked him how he did it, he said simply, he only made eloquent content. Go get a couple of real copywriting books and learn how to get your readers into your content emotionally. It doesn't even have to the most informant content, just the most emotional drawing. Make sure your website look aesthetic, and only build 1 article a day. After you have 10-12 articles, start submitting them to sites like digg.

I have a fantastic domain I've been holding onto for a while that would work great for this site, but it is a .org.

Do you think this would be an issue?

It's not related to this niche, and I personally think .com is of big importance. Facebook founders dropped 200,000 dollars to get .com version.

This is really a good niche to be in. The more competition the more money to be made. Of course you said you are passionate about it and that is the key to success. Good luck and let us know how are you doing.
