posting in blog first before EZA -- how long is the time difference?

hey guys,

i'm curious to ask since i read in most threads here that u should post content on your blog first before distributing it to eza and other article directories, how much time do you delay posting it in the article directories and are there steps to take before distributing it like bookmarking, pinging, etc.

kindly let me know all the best,

f

I think you are wasting time doing that.

Google does not rank the original source higher than another source of the same content.

You're right; it doesn't necessarily reflect the ranking of the source.

However, I would believe that it would help your site if you were submitting a good majority of your articles to directories, would it not? If you didn't let your pages index first before putting them on directories, wouldn't your website look like it was completely unoriginal to Google? I've seen a few Matt Cutts videos where he clearly spells out that scraped/unoriginal sites will not be ranked as highly, which would be pretty obvious even without him saying it.

You know, I have seen him say that too...

But I have not seen a difference in how Google handles my websites versus the article directories.

This is one place where I have seen a clear disconnect between what he says and Google does.

I have always attributed that to Google being able to recognize an article directory and to distinguish between a regular site and an article directory.

After all, our sites don't have that Powered by Article Dashboard at the bottom of them, do they?

While I'm a complete advocate of the "always post it to your own site" practice, I have never subscribed to the "make sure it's indexed first" rule.

In my opinion, there are several holes in this theory.

First, as Bill said, I have never seen any evidence that it makes a difference.

Second, and more importantly, it seems ignorant to think that Google (or any SE for that matter) is not smart enough to understand it's own indexing time frames. Google has to know that they aren't going to index your blog as quickly as a site like EZA, and take that into consideration when deciding whether or not to devalue a site in the SERPs.

Considering how much they preach NOT trying to go out of your way for the SEs, but to focus on generating better content and a better user experience, it would be silly for them to turn around and say "you better be indexed first or we're gonna slap you."

The truth is, when EZA out ranks you, it's because they're a huge site with massive authority and endless amounts of backlinks. I really believe that it has nothing to do with their article getting indexed first.

Over time, you can always overtake them.

So, that's my theory on the subject, and I'm sticking to it.

agreed on advice, so to make sure it gets indexed first, i believe that bookmarking should be enough, any other thing i should be aware of?

I think you missed my advice. I'm saying don't wait for it to be indexed, just make sure you post it to your site right away, then do whatever you want with it. Plus, EZA is going to take a couple days (maybe) to post the article anyway, and you can probably get indexed in that time frame. If not, it will be shortly afterwards.

As far as indexing, yes, bookmarking is good. Really, sticking your link anywhere with a decent amount of PR/traffic will get the bots crawling. Just link to it somehow and it will eventually get crawled. Pinging helps too.

There are a ton methods to indexing, and you can find a lot in the SEO forum. All in all, I don't give it that much thought. I post, I ping (automatically with WP), and I go on about my business, but that's just me.
