My Interview In Front Of Skype's 600 MILLION+ Audience

One of the people that I met at Micheal Penland's
seminar in Orlando, Florida at the beginning of
December was Terry Brock.

Terry is responsible for maintaining Skype's fairly
new blog. Terry sold me on doing an interview by
pointing out that over 100 million of Skypes
600 million registered users are online in any given
month, and that a lot of these people will be finding
out about Skype's blog, and some new capabilities that
they are rolling out... to include enhanced capabilities
for doing video calls with up to 10 people.

That new capability struck me as the perfect way to
create an info product... in video, or just audio.
This is something that I will be tinkering with

Being no idiot, I jumped at the chance to spend 10
minute on camera and grab some free traffic from
Skype.

Terry also asked me if I used Skype's video
recording capability much, and I had to admit that
I rarely did. Having "a face made for radio," I
prefer doing teleseminar and telephone interviews.

I can see the value of using video more... the
body language adds a new dimension to an interview
or coaching session.

It did take some time grasping the idea that to
make eye contact with my viewers, you need to look
at the camera rather than at the person you're talking
to on the screen.

You can catch the interview here:

Can you see the possibilities

Willie

Learn something new everyday. A new audience or a new way of reaching an existing audience.
Thanks, that's what keeps work interesting.

Yes, I'm a heavy Skype user. I've coached clients in Hong Kong,
the US, and the UK while sitting in a bamboo hut in the Philippines
      through the magic of Skype

I'm relatively new to Skype video, and ideally, you do want a
strong connection for best reception due to bandwidth requirements
      for video.

Willie you have a fine face for camera, don't knock yourself.

In terms of the interview - I enjoyed it. Great opportunity for exposure.

I use the skype/pamela set up a lot (when they both want to play nice) and that's been fantastic for interviews but my one big gripe with Skype is the fact it cuts out way too much for me personally.

It handles text fine, but videos cut out and audio can be either fantastic or just an epic fail for me. I've done a few coaching sessions with skype audio. Luckily if I've had issues my clients have been understanding and we've gone to text.

That said, I'm excited about the new features they're rolling out. Video is huge and I for one will be using it a lot more in 2011 - and I will attempt to do that from time to time through Skype (if the quality improves for me)

I understand that their quality is going up. It's also always good to
      have several options.

I didn't know that they had a blog either. It's fairly new but
just look at the potential... especially we people like us
      spreading the word

        Willie,

I have a question for you, sorta off topic...

I was working on a website last night and it has a spot that is ideal for a "guru quote" kinda thing. I seem to remember years ago you being associated with a quotation something along the lines of "to get traffic you have to stand out in front of it". Bad paraphrase for sure, but was this your quote and could you tell me what the actual content was?

        Thanks,
        Steve

Too bad they can't get more skype people to see the blog. When I watched it there was only 56 views so far. Maybe more seen it, but just looking at Youtube they didn't.

Not trying to knock you or anything, I actually watched the entire interview and you did a good job. Just saying they could promote their blog a little better.
