Article Marketing Question from a Newbie

Hello All!

After reading Bill Lawerence's thread -> "Big Day For Me -Article marketing"

I was inspired to take the plunge and begin article marketing. I already have selected my niche, have my article written & registered with CB. The 1st article directory I signed up with was ArticlesBase. However I have encountered a problem & was wondering if someone would be so kind as to help me.

When I tried to publish my article with only one CB hoplink in the main body of the article, ArticleBase rejected it. Apparently you cannot put direct links into the main article body, only the into the authors bio. However, I have seen other articles with links in the main body that direct the reader directly to the CB sales page. How is this possible?

Here's the sixth bullet in ArticleBase's Terms of Use:
    • You agree to not include any affiliate links in the body of your article. If you are trying to promote an affiliate program, please set up your own domain and link to it in your resource box.
Hope this clarifies everything, it's possible that Terms of Use have changed throughout the years.

      Thanks for responding.

I understand that would technically be a violation of TOA. However, I have seen recent articles on ArticleBase that have the link in the body of the article. Such as this one -> articlesbase. c o m/ business-opportunities-articles/the-last-traffic-secret- by-kelvin-hught on-3259958.html

Are they redirecting/cloaking? If so, how is this done? My understand of these methods are uncertain. Thanks

Some things "slip through the net". A sleepy editor didn't spot it, perhaps.

And in some directories, they change the rules but leave on the site everything submitted before the rule-change, so that they "hold stock" that doesn't comply with the current rules. Don't assume that what you see is what you can do.

It's very important to read the terms of service and editorial guidelines of each directory to which you submit, because they always vary a bit - sometimes a lot.

    And welcome to the forum.

If you're trying to get affiliate sales, why not
drive your traffic to a squeezepage that captures
it and allows you to market to them over and over
      and over again.

Look, affiliate sales are great, but create a list and
      simplify and supercharge your efforts.

Create a nice free offer, put together a solid squeezepage and
      build that list!

      That's an order, soldier. (smile)

Happy holidays and I hope this helps...

        Hi,

Good choice on the article directory!

You could also try ezine articles and create some squidoo lenses and hubpages with lots of keyword-based anchor text that will turn to be good link bait for you.

All these sites rank pretty well and could lead to good traffic.

A well-written hub with some solid SEO work and quality links, maybe a video or two as well, could boost easily your affiliate link sales.

        Try that!

        That's my two cents.

        Best of luck.

        Sir, Yes, Sir!

I totally understand that the money is in the list. List building is absolutely essential & I definitely plan on doing just as you suggested.

However, being that I'm brand spanking new to IM, I feel that I need to just take the initiative and do something. And while article marketing does not have a high degree of difficulty, my plan was to start there.

As soon as I have accomplished that 1st step then I can graduate to building a squeeze page & offering real value to potential customers.

        Thanks for the advice

    Nice,

I definatly think Article Marketing can do wonders.

But yes, abiding by sites TOS can be hard, but as others hinted at you need a domain name of your own.

What you can do is by a .info domain and then mask your affiliate link with your new domain name.

    Good Luck

Ok. So I can buy a cheap domain & redirect my readers to the CB sales page. Not too familiar with those methods. I'll have to conduct a search for further details on how to correctly do this.

      Question to you JacksonRiddle:

Have you ever heard of shrinkmylink . com? My understanding is that they will provide you with a free redirect link for your CB tracking ID URL. But Im not sure how reliable this service is & if those that click on the shortened redirected link will be properly credited to me at CB?

The article you saw may have been an older one that was published before they changed their TOS. I still see a few older EZA articles that include stuff you couldn't get away with by today's standards.

Just make sure you follow their current rules and you'll be fine.

Here are a couple of thoughts.

It doesn't matter what they let other people do if they don't let you do it. If you want to submit articles, you have to it in a way that will get your articles published.

Do not use a third party shrink your link service. In the first place, they are never free. You always pay somehow and it might be that the way you pay is by giving up your click tracking information to someone who uses it to beat you.

In the second place, you never know when they will go out of business taking your links with them.

You can buy an info domain if you really want to. But the second year it is going to be regular price when you wnat to renew. If you buy a decent dot com or net or org now, and someties down the line decide you want to enter this market with your won product, you will have a domain to do it with tht looks like you have had your domain for a while.

Even though it is not true, dot info and dot biz look like you have no history on the internet.
