What grabs your attention in a splash page?

What have you seen works or doesn't work?

What makes YOU want to click?

I am working on different versions and types of splash pages.

Here is the latest, though know I am just playing right now:

Would love to know what makes YOU want to click when you visit somewhere. I know what makes me click but wondering what captures the attention of others.

      The only thing a splash page is good for is grabbing attention in a traffic exchange, in my opinion. Otherwise, why make them go through an extra page to get to the actual meat?

    i'm just thinking of a creative way to get people to view the info without having to opt in for it.

    while the money is in the list and know that statistically people don't read the emails verses watching a video. there is a higher rate for that.

    maybe go the way of autoresponder?

    i don't know why i don't like them. it's very efficient and cost effective but something so cold about them.

    perhaps i'm over thinking it.

    Never splash pages. Never ever. They don't add any value and create traffic leaks by driving users away before they ever see your site.

    really? i love them. i must be an odd ball.

    wouldn't the purpose of a splash page (which to me is really not different from a capture page) be like a 15 second commercial to pay attention?

      Yep a splash page should be like an elevator pitch but with a call to action.

    If you're building a list use a splash page for sure.

    I use them all the time but I use really bright web 2.0 colors like in skype and give away sweet offers.

    Lightboxes are pretty hot, aweber provides one and there's WP plugins also.
    Slide up footers are cool too. Traditional splashes are annoying.

      I wouldn't watch this any farther than past the part where the guy in the hat appears because I would be watching for Raquel Soto. Not in a stupid male chauvinist kind of way, but more like why is this guy here instead of Raquel?

      It has your name in the prime real estate on the page in the upper left hand corner and then again on the splash screen. So something would not be connecting for me if Raquel did not appear.

          Sure, that could work, just make sure your intro ties into who and what the guy is saying, use some of the same wording in what you say. Both in the begining and the end. Might sound silly to you, but to the person who sees it only once, they have a better chance of remembering if you say it, he says it and then you say it again.

        That is where it looks like a different page appears to float in on top of the page you are looking at and the page you used to see is now all dark.

        With Aweber you put your optin form in the lightbox.

        Tim Castleman does this on his blog.
