For something special I need to do I just purchased Microsoft Office for the first time in a few years. I'm downloading it now. I see Microsoft is also going head to head with google with Office online.

What do you see yourself using over the coming year more? Office or Docs?

  • Offlice online has a lot of catching up to do methinks but glad they've stepped into the arena. I guess the future is the cloud and I'll be using Docs for now... but only because i don't own Office.
  • Both! Or in my case 3 products.

I use Microsoft Office at certain times when it fits my needs. I own Office 2007.

I use Google Documents most of the time, because my documents are always with me, and I work from a GMail account for the majority of my communication. Google Documents allows me to share folders with clients, family, and friends, which has been very nice.

The third one, OpenOffice. Not because of any special features, I just like it. I keep it loaded on all of my PC's and laptops which do not have my ONE license of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft Office is the most powerful of the group especially when it comes to Powerpoint Presentations.

    • Hi friends,
I use Microsoft Office from last three years and I find it great for my work .Now in these days Google SEO provide us Microsoft Office 2010 which is easy to use and have more option for all types files.
  • I use MS office for my wordprocessing.

Then I use Goggle Docs, when I'm liasing with my outsource staff.
  • I have been using Google docs since I started with internet marketing. it is nice to keep important files in a place where you can easily find them. Just a question though, can we open microsoft word files with openoffice and the other way around?

I haven't had the chance to try openoffice yet although it is free because I already have microsoft office with me.

    • Been using OpenOffice for quite sometime. I originally started using it so I could work on Linux, but eventually I downloaded it for Windows as well, and stopped upgrading MS Office. Open Office can do the same function, only more reliably.
  • I prefer office
  • Open Office....

Oh wait!! That was not one of my choices...
  • I use MS Office most of the time and occasionally open office on my old
computer. Yet to try Google doc though.
  • Office (2007 and up) runs so much faster and more efficiently than Open Office, but I realize that its cost is prohibitive for some people. I wasn't all that happy with Office 2003, and was happily using Open Office until I discovered how much faster and more feature-packed Office 2007 is!
  • I use Microsoft Office

I do use Google for email, but I also use outlook. I like Gmail due to it's high spam blocking capabilities.
  • It's so ironic that Open Office, which was supposed to be a lean and mean open source alternative to Office, has now transformed into a bloated and overweight version of its former trim self...lol!
  • Microsoft Office products include features that enable specific collaboration scenarios and features that are designed to help make your documents and files more secure. Hence i am using Microsoft Office
  • Office ofcourse, you can use it even the internet connection is lost. And also, there are many options on shortcuts and edditing is provided by office. What is your operating system? Microsoft 2010 is the best among 2007 and 2003. I suggest to you to use it ^_^

    • Well, one can correctly argue Open Office offers that very same functionality too.
  • I tried Open Office on a few occasions and just found that Google Docs was a better free alternative. And yes, Microsoft Office really is faster and more intuitive. I like to support open source software, but I also need to run a business.
  • Both.

There is some stuff I just will never put "on the cloud" because its too sensitive.

    • I use both - Google Docs for simpler stuff or things that I want to either share with other people or have access to from anywhere.

MS Office for more complex stuff, mainly in Excel (I'm a total Excel geek and there's so much you can't do with Google's spreadsheet).

I'm a Mac user and I also use Pages and Keynote for a lot of stuff, because the templates are so much nicer looking than anything you get in MS Office.

I don't think it's an either/or for most people - it's more of using whichever is most suitable for any given project.
