Are there hazards if I move FB fan page?

(Note - I apologize if you have seen similar post from me. I forgot to subscribe to the threads and promptly 'lost' them in the Warrior Forum abyss. I don't know how to track them down...)

I just set up a fan page last week on my personal account. I should have put it on a business account. I've got about 200 friends now on the fan page. If I move it to my other account, will I regret it? What hazards do I need to be aware of? What things should I do before I move it?

Thank you!

radar - whats the difference between a personal site and a business site? I also created a fan page from what I think is my personal account. Where do I look for how to create a business account...

Do I have to have my personal account first - to then create a business account?

      Hi Matt,
I happen to have a separate FB account that I established for business purposes - different email and pw, but with my name attached. That's all! Ideally, I want to keep business activity separate from personal activity.

OK thanks - I get it. So I would just start a business instead of a personal account. I may have to do that next - even though I'm gaining a healthy distaste for Facebook..

If I could I'd move all my friends so far to another social network and gather a tribe there - any suggestions?

I'm pretty new to social marketing Matt. I am sure if you posted a question on the main forum you'd get some great answers. Good luck!

According to Facebook terms of service you're only allowed to have one account, regardless of type. If they catch you with multiple accounts they could terminate all your accounts. So be careful and backup your profile and fan page just in case.

In fact, I know that most pages ( and now ESPECIALLY ads ) that feature a wholesome looking 20's something girl profile are likely somebodies extra account to feature affiliate offers. Facebook is saturated with them.

That's why I'm looking into some alternative way to bring friends elsewhere - something easier to navigate as well. I find Facebook disfunctional.

*Gasp* So you're telling me that all of those friend requests I get from wholesome looking 20something girls are actually not interested in me? :p

I'm afraid that could be - LOL... well it would be for me anyway - maybe not for you. But I'm sure it would be true for me - especially when I keep getting messaged about the next great affiliate offer...

By the way - how do I subscribe to a thread so I know when someone responded? Anybody?

You can go to "thread tools" at the top of the thread, and in the drop-down menu there is an option to subscribe.

Matt - I learned this with trial and lots of ERRORS. Note the options below the field where you post and submit a Q or A. TechSmith | Screencast.com, online video sharing, subscribe options You can choose how you are notified to responses. I think there is also a user setting that you can automatically be subscribed to any posts/responses you make.

Hi Brian - Good to know! Do you manage personal/business activity on one FB account? I currently use a pseuonym on the biz side/fan page, which complicates matters.

          Thanks.

Whatever you decide to do, you can easily notify all of your friends/fans when you set up your new page. And yes, like Brian said, be careful! Be sure to read the Facebook TOS before you do anything.

bro i think its not a good idea. cause you may be claimed as a violator of FB rules. you can't have more than one account and if you shift your page to another account you will easily be caught and it may create hassles. so don't do it. its my suggestion.

So what do people do to keep their business activities separate from personal activities on social marketing sites?

Fan page fans don't have access to your profile. I also crank down on the privacy settings so most of the marketing related stuff that I "like" I don't share with my profile. So unless you deliberately advertise your page to your friends, they're pretty much kept separate. Of course it depends on how you treat your profile. I keep my friends limited to close friends. If on the other hand you collect hundreds of casual friends then keeping them separate may not be that big a deal. And if they're interested in your marketing offer then this could be profitable. At least that's what the social media gurus promote.

Hi Brian - Cranking down the privacy settings on the fan page is a great idea. Unless you are intentional about checking such things, FB seems to allow everyone in the world to take a peek. I didn't think fan page fans had access to my profile, but I wasn't positive. Since I use a pseudonym on my autoresponder messages if a sale is made, I didn't want a visitor to be confused. Thanks for your feedback!
