Hey folks, just wanted to get some discussion going here. In IM we always here that action is the key, taking action will get you there, etc. While we all know this to be true, many find it difficult still to turn a profit. The willingness to work hard and take action are no good unless an end result is in mind. So, I pose the question: What does your typical day working online look like?
Those of you that have achieved good success or have long-term experience, please give a picture to the rest of us what comprises a
"normal" day at work...

      * Before I even do my morning I usually check the beast that is my biz and make sure all systems are go (literally). Make sure all sites are up, affiliates are doing what they do, PPC campaigns get started, go over my inbox to see if any emergencies are in, and THEN go do my morning (which is usually a drive, get out of the house, get coffee, take in some 'real world' and something in there usually inspires me, be it the grumpy old facker that doesn't appreciate anything anymore, or a great new campaign tim hortons put up, or the traffic that makes people insane here in toronto. By the time I get home I'm thankful and ready to work like a champ for the day).

      * Actual work (for me) varies as I touch a lot of fires, I'm a vendor, affiliate, and do a touch of servicing so I'm sparatic in my day most days with a few core duties and the rest is simply prioritizing by importance and or profit. Designing, interacting with my affiliates, recruiting, helping people with plateau's, tweaking my PPC if I'm running any for the day, usually tabbing between xx windows, xx software, 3 screens on one workstation and 2 screens on the other. Lot's of time is spent writing, and or just planning on WHAT to write, and how to BEST write it. < This is important and I see a lot of marketers simply chop quick copy and publish it only to revise or wonder why it's not converting..

      * Making sure I spent a portion of my day on tomorrow, next month, and next years efforts as well (planning launches, doing market research, buying domains, planning planning planning).

      * SAVE TIME FOR YOURSELF! Most of us just stare at the monitors all day. I'm lucky in the sense that my work and my play overlap a lot (music production, designing, singing/rapping) and my studio allows for great creative exercises pre and post work to get my creative juices flowing or to get my mind to slow down at days end (play some piano, make a beat, sing, whatever).

This isn't complete yet but here's a pic of the environment I'm in - hopefully it inspires you guys to look around your workspace and see how you can make it more efficient and aimed at success by default:

By days end I'm usually on forums taking a bit of time to stay connected to the world again - this industry allows for great relationship building and networking however it also turns you into a monster re time management and availability for others. So at least a virtual spin around my hangouts is a must.

      Norb.
Nice setup, my brother and business partner is a musician. Sounds about like my day as well. Just still in the building stages with a lot of it. Looking forward to 2011 to get things in full swing.

I wake up, log on and do the basic stuff (check rankings, go through my list) and then I just... do random stuff. I hate setting up like, schemes.

Still looking for that perfect mic... which one is your favorite?

I used to be quite the mic whore - err gear junky in general. Have gone through a good dozen mics ranging from the cheap <$200 to the >$1500 and I have about 4-5 right now that are varied. I've found over the years that the mic is literally but ONE element in your recording environment and you can get away with amazing quality on a low mic in a great booth, or crap quality on a $2K mic in a crap room...

I run it all through a tiny Mackie 202 16 channel as I've really downsized my gear junky obsession into a productive>profitable>focused studio (otherwise I'd have every single piece of audio gear known to man and be broke playing with them all vs. utilizing/monetizing).

Sorry to run this thread off course OP!

Warriors please contribute how you do your day!

I was just talking to my husband who has been in the live sound industry for over 16 years and he recommended this: PreSonus for recording.

And norb, yes I hear you about the gear junkie. My basement is overrun with pieces of equipment that is owned by him. He used to work for both EAW and RCF so we have a LOT of stuff

Sorry OP for hijacking the thread. The day in a life is really interesting to read, keep 'em coming...

Thank you for your help Charlotte.

I've been cracking my brain for a long time over what professional recording artists use for studio recordings. Will definitely check PreSonus out.

My spouse works 12 hour shift work on a European schedule, so when she goes to work I go to work (3 days on 12, 12, 6 then 2 days off 2 days 12, 2 days off). She rotates at 2 weeks.

What do I do? Get coffee, take dog out and walk. Log onto hotmail/msn, check sales. Connect to MSN with clients. Setup pending tests, build pages. Build my own pages after clients are off. Write/submit articles or blog entries to appropriate sites. Take dog out. Get kids dinner or whatever. Do more web work. Check analytics. Check CB stats. Run more tests.

Days off I only check whats up with clients and stats/analytics.

Oh and most important and I do not know why is check my paypal balance. When I do I am almost always surprised with my own site sales.

I do a lot of thinking while waiting for the dog to do her biz and the other day I was thinking I am doing exactly what I am good at and making money doing it. And I want to do the daily tasks. Rare!

Previously my day was running around all day, taking calls 24/7 from irate people or demanding ppl and losing more and more money each day servicing opportunistic clients (landlords) and tenants. Never had a day off from it for years.

I think the most important part is I study something every day that will allow the passive income into the future. That is the goal to do WHATEVER I WANT EVERYDAY.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

I don't know about everyone else, but all this
lack of a proper plan or "schedule" explains in
itself why most marketers initially fail.

Seems a lot of people confusing reading/learning
    with WORKING.

Not being critical, just analyzing what makes
    the successes and profit-stragglers.

I would have to certainly agree as it was the actions that eventually made my paypal account grow.

I needed the knowledge to know which actions to take but the money was not there till the actions (and by that i mean daily actions) were in place.

I spend most of the day keeping a balance between my life at home with my work at the computer.

I basically work for around an hour and a half sessions sometimes more and then take breaks in between. I focus on 'only' what works in my marketing efforts.

When I was new, I wasted a lot of time checking emails, payment processors and trackers.

You have to know what kind of action to take. Know what gets you results everyday and keep doing that consistently. You will also need to believe in your action and that it will get you good results. Also keep balance in your life.
