From the beginning to 5k a month

Alright I am finally getting serious about internet marketing, and I want to be at 5k a month a year and a half from now. Anytime earlier is fine with me I wont complain .

I start right now. First I need to find a niche.

You know what I hate that word, I am just going to call it a market.

This thread is so anyone who wants to help me can chip in, and I want suggestions. Don't worry about hurting my feelings or going easy on me.

If you are a newbie or advanced newbie, or advanced newbie that has been too lazy and understands alot but needs to put everything together(thats me) then work along with me and play in this thread.

Don't worry about me stealing your ideas. I don't care how competitive a niche is, in reality the internet is way too big and the pie too endless for me to be worried about there ''not being enough room for everyone'' on the internet. That is just fear talking.

Ok so enough talk now. Back to the task. Since I am a biology major going into my final semester at university, and I am a creative writing minor,(and i know alot about natural health) I want to find an area I can say alot about and it wont sound like garbage.

For some reason pregnancy comes to my mind.

I know alot of people have problems getting pregnant, so I am going to focus on that.

But not just that. I need to be more targeted. I am going to break this into groups of people. Too broad wont do me any good. A woman who can't get pregnant because she is too old might not be having the same thoughts as someone who is 25 and infertile.

I am off to search for some forums to see what are some problems and thoughts of women who are trying to conceive.

*runs away to find out*

I'll be back!

Heather

Before you find a niche, what exactly is your plan to make that money?

AdSense, infoproducts, affiliate marketing, cpa or what?

Good point there- think through the process completely. There's lots of ways to do it - best to pick one early on and learn all you can about how to work that process.

Dig around this forum, you'll get plenty of ideas.

Actually you should find a hungry, starving market BEFORE you even think of a the system you will use to deliver a product, or a product itself. If you don't know your market, how do you know the best type of product for them and the delivery of that product to them?

Thats my thought as well. I want to know some things about them and then test some things before I have this huge business plan and I might be not quite on the point about them. No one can really know before they test it, you can only get some ideas. I am really wanting to know what these people are up to before I go in. I want to help them. Always come up with a plan to help them, and no matter what way you throw it at them, they will come.

Hardly anyone stresses this, and I know pioneering dont pay, but between this forum and wealthy affiliate, i see alot of focus on the technicalities and little to no focus on their feelings. I care about natural health and pregnancy(all health issues really) so I want to help them out.

Doing some Keyword research. Feel like maybe I am not paying enough attention whether my keywords are buying ones or not. I do feel like they are all very targeting to my group, but just not buying keywords.

Not a stupid question, but probably an obvious answer Question of the day:

Do Internet marketers use non ''moneymaker'' keywords just to get interested people to their site/squeeze page, then sock a sales-ey email to the list they get. Is THAT how the list works?

gonna check backlinks at yahoo site explorer for my competition on the first page of google. Finally figured out how to use it! *Looks pleased with self*

couldnt have said it better myself. Do go building a product then come in here here crying it aint selling. Too many warriors do that.

work smarter and not harder. GO out and check your niche, go to forums, online directories, smaller communities and see how much money they have and how desperate your target market is first. Do smaller tests with optin pages and ask them what they want to know about in an opt in form first.

I do this and out of 5 tries, 3 are crap, one niche is ok and the other 1 is killer.

So it is not easy, but if you spend time on this step you will make more out the other end when you are diving traffic to a completed product.

Oh and have fun with it....if you aint having fun, then you are waisting you time.

Josh hit is on the head. NO matter what sort of business you are building even if you flogging affiliate products, if you are not building some sort of list and gaining their trust you are missing out on a ton of money.

So start building a list and giving them quality stuff. IF you do that, it gets em hungry to buy stuff you are selling subconsciously.

If you still like the pregnancy niche, but think it's too competitive, try narrowing it down. For example, you would be surprised how many woman are foregoing the hospital route for a midwife and having their babies at home. Of women who have their babies in water. Dig deep because there is a lot there.

Don't know if there is money in the subject, but it may be worth checking out. Once you decide on niche, decide how you are going to monetize it. But first things first, find the niche and get the site built. Good content is a key component.

You are right, I am starting to realize that having some kind of website to work my way out from is essentiaL. I need space and support and a place to test from. I can research and research all I want, but I can't ever get a 100% clear answer. Just an educated guess. And testing is where I make it to 100% lol.

Ok I like this market. For alot of reasons:

    1. the people have an strong desire to get pregnant at all costs.
    2. they have money to spend if they can afford all these doctor visits and vitamins, etc.
3.opportunities to sell to them over and over again. when they get pregnant there are alot of other issues that come up.
    4.desperate, desperate desperate.
5.many dont like the doctor and would do anything to avoid going. seem to want another solution.
    6. tired of spending money on expensive fetility treatments.

    ok groups:
    1. women who are older who want to get pregnant
    2. women who cant get pregnant for health issues(wondering if i can break this downn even further to target specific health issues).
    3. women who are just having a hard time getting pregnant, but have no idea whether they are infertile or not.
    4. women who have husbands who are infertile.
    5. couples who have just been trying and have no success,.
    6. women who have miscarried but are trying again.

there are some comple issues out there. That has me worried a little bit.

more research. next i fugure i better start thinking of keywords.

I'll pick a product last. Want to keep these people and groups in mind before i pick a product. Product first=i lose sight of understanding these people.

how to connect these issues with keywords that are buying keywords. that i am not sure of...

Not sure. I feel affiliate marketing with an info product and then later my own info product written by me. I am not sure where I can find some ideas like that on here that would give me more ideas of what would work best. I don't know how to dig through the forums just quite yet.

    @JoshuaZamora
I don't know too much about how to do that but I am open to the idea.

I want to master the basics thats for sure. Those in the competition who know how to make a wordpress, do keyword research, and the whole nine dont worry me. The guy that knows the simple basics like the back of his hand worries me.

Is there a way to tell if one way of dong it will work best for what I am trying or is it just a matter of testing? I suspect there is no sure way to tell if an adsense sort of deal will be more effective than the alternative. I am not so sure

Its 12:12 am here. I am tired and thinK I will pick up when I wake up.

trying to set up a wordpress to use to test and build around. got unlimited hosting, and ready to roll. Need a theme that actually fits in with pregnancy and conception. Can't find one-i cant have a business theme or technology type theme for this lol.

Hey Bubbles88, you might want to invest in a premium wordpress theme like Headway, Thesis, or Genisis theme. These are drag and drop wp themes and are very easy to customize (without any coding) into the type of theme you want.

Also, have you already checked out Google keyword tool or Market Samurai to see how many searches the "market" pregnancy gets per month? You will also be able to see any related keywords to pregnancy people are searching for.

    Best of luck!

Yes I have been on Google keyword tool mostly. Never used Market Samurai, what is that? (*ignores laughter in background*)

Thanks about the theme idea.I will write the names down now to keep in mind when I attempt setup #2.

Question-what is all the harsh negativity against .info's i keep stumbling across? Can someone clear this up for me. I don't want to be buying all these 10$ .coms early in the game when I am still testing if it is not absolutely essential.

.info has a bad rep because it's cheaper to buy hence attracts more spam. Stories like this don't inspire confidence either: Google Temporarily Purges .info Domain Names | SEO Book.com

Headway, Thesis and Genesis are all good starts for themes. Also check out WooThemes if you're just looking for a one off.

If you are new to keyword research you should still be doing it by hand, I have no idea why people were so quick to mention specialized and expensive software. There's plenty of articles on this site about the subject, start here and spend nothing. Once you feel you have some level of keyword research mastery, then look into tools that help you.

Start with .coms, even if your site is a complete failure, the site should retain the domain's value if resold (assuming you actually tried to work on building the sites up.)

Buy MS and were talking .info domains? ... Put some cash towards decent domains first so that you are building up liquidate-able assets.

    Ok so about hosting...

If I want to have something where I can make a website with a domain, and then if i decide to make an entirely new website with an entirely new domain 4 weeks later, and keep doing so accordingly...then what type of hosting do I need?

I see Reseller, VPS, and dedicated server. Not sure what all those mean. I also see something called unlimited for 4.95(I am at hostgator).

    what is up with that??

I tend to buy my domain at GoDaddy then set the nameservers to point to HostGator. I use HostGator and just have the Baby Gator package for "Web Hosting" to start with. This gives you unlimited domains, which means you can start setting up many different sites under the one package.

If you're like me and not a "programmer", I just install WordPress using their Fantastico tool - very easy. Then it's just a matter of using WordPress (admin) to manage your content and look and feel.

    Hope this helps.

My best advice (which is the same advice I got that finally got me making money), is once you choose your market, put blinders on and when you're on your computer, just work. Don't read about new ways to make money or buy any new training courses. FOCUS on that one thing until you have a good stream of income from it, then move on to something else if you want.

    Hey Bubbles,

Congrats on getting started and good luck on your journey! Here are some tips for you:

You mentioned finding Conceive magazine. Pick up a copy (or better yet, subscribe) and scan it from end to end. Companies are paying big money to advertise there, so they've already done the market research on who your market is and what they want to buy. Getting that info for the price of a magazine is a steal.

While you're reading that magazine, websites tailored to your audience, and etc., examine the writing voice they're using. Do they sound frustrated? Sympathetic? Sad? Mimic those emotions on your site and your audience will feel like you "get" them.

I also wouldn't worry too much about finding the perfect product. Your niche has plenty of associated products to promote, from vitamins to info products to ovulation kits. This gives you a lot of options, which means you'll probably need to do some split testing to see what sticks.

It depends - if the domain is the exact match of a keyword(s), then it will get a 'boost' in Google. You won't get this boost if you put something before or after the keywords, but it will still be worth getting a domain with the keywords in them - in most cases.

Pregnancy may be a good idea but there is too much competition in this field.

Why don’t you write articles about health and sell them at Constant Content? You get paid from $20 to $50 or more for a short 500 words article there.

It’s a good idea to have many different income streams online. Build your business about pregnancy, and at the same time, write articles for CC.

    However, CC’s guidelines are complicated…

If you are interested on working there, send me a message and I’ll help you with their guidelines.

You sound like you are really taking your time to learn about your "market" but make sure you take the time to get "something" out there as soon as possible. Things like organic traffic and building a list does take time so the sooner you start on those processes the better things will be for you once you have products to promote and things like that.

One thing you need to look at is: how much information is available for free in your market. If your customers are used to finding all the information they want for free it's going to be tough to get then to pay for it. I'm not saying it can't be done but your going to have to find a strong hook to convince them that your unique and they need what your selling.

Get a blog online and start some serious conversation about the subject. Promise to help out all you can and you'll soon have a group of people that you can ask some probing questions about what they are looking for. Then you can focus your research on helping them. A great product will soon evolve.
