Hi folks

Hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and are looking forward to a profitable and happy new year .

Which brings me onto this post. I'm based in the Uk and have been looking at starting an internet based business for some time now but am at the 'information overload' stage that I'm sure all of you have been at.

I'm as green as can be on this stuff but one thing I've realised is that there's quite a bit of learning to do before I can actually get started so with an absolute deluge of information available, I'm humbly requesting some advice on where to go for a good, sound, honest, mentoring program.

I've been listening to Sterling and Jay's Internet Business Mastery Podcast on iTunes and these guys seem pretty impressive. But one of the things they warn of is the very thing I'm suffering from - information overload. Their advice is find a mentor/system, learn it, and stick with it. Problem is that's exactly where I'm at.

So first I need to find a learning system that teaches me the basics: niches; seo; blogging; email lists affiliate marketing ... you get the picture. The Internet Business Mastery Academy seems a good place. At $97 a month there is a cost associated with this which seems reasonable providing it gives me all the learning I need. Have any of you guys used it? I'd be interested in your comments.

The other huge stumbling block for me will also be mega predictable to many of you seasoned marketers out there - the age old problem of find a niche or niches. Now I reallise that this is going to be largely dependant on the individual concerned. We all have our pastimes, hobbies and passions so no one person will be the same, but can any of you offer some generic advice here? The IBM Academy podcast mentions that you should choose a niche that you're passionate about - and I can see the logic in that - but there really is nothing springing to mind in the empty void between my ears !

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I'm really not after anything earth shattering here: just some good old fashioned advice!

Kind regards

YC

    Hi YC

I know what what you mean about info overload! I have been trying stuff and mentoring over the last couple of years, but chose a US based mentor, wrong move!

I have joined SFM group which has detailed training, webinars, squeeze pages etc. Its a UK based group founded by Stuart Ross and Daniel Wagner. They have live webinars every week, online training plus more.

I have used the system and have built a list of a 1000 opt ins, now I must use the system to start to sell to my list

As for selecting a niche, again I know what you mean. Hobbies etc didnt work for me so I am carrying out market research on what people are searching for.

If you want my SFM details to take a look let me know and I will e mail you the link

Never heard of SFM Paul. Your honest opinion would be gratefully recieved, and is it a comprehensive course of learning starting at the absolute basics? I guess I should also ask about cost!

Interesting comment about US-based mentors. Do you really believe that this is a significant factor for you?

      Thanks

    For starters welcome!

Nice to see you taking the plunge into IM! You do need to find a system and stick with it.....its one of the main reasons why people in IM fail....they fail to stick to anything.....

Remember that this is a business and like all businesses it requires work. I havent used internet business mastery academy so cannot comment on them....but if you feel it would benefit your learning give them a shot.

Have a good browse on this forum, ask questions and they will be answered. Lots of knowledgeable people on here!

    Regards

If you have no money, do some seo, article marketing and deal making.

If you have money, go buy ads.

Starting out, don't reinvent the wheel, go find out what others are doing, and do it yourself. Watch ads, see whats working for a week.

For a niche, do something big, not small. Do online dating or something where its a $3-6 payout for just a sign up, don't try to convert on an ebook. Health and beauty -> weight loss, teeth whitening, hair loss, skin creams are always great. The market is huge. I find a lot of guys quit too early cuz some clickbank guru told them to sell "how to train your dog in the rain on tuesday" niche ebooks.

Don't buy one single more product if you are buying them. Try something, if you try something, you get a result, if you think about trying something, you get nothing. And don't get stuck on one thing. If you do article marketing, dont write 5-10 articles, write 50, 100, or more.

That's just my point ... I need to learn how to do this stuff! Thanks for the reply but it's just too generic!

My advice to a newbie would be not to seek out a specific mentor at first but instead to get some technical training - I mean the basics which you can learn for free on YouTube or searching around Google, or there are plenty of well package tutorials availble for a very low cost.

Don't worry about making money straight away, instead learn how to use the tools which are going to facilitate it first.

You need to get your own domain name and hosting (e.g. namecheap & hostgator)... and try to get your own name as a domain name.

You need to learn how to put up your own website, just use a resell rights poduct - it can be anything just for the practice of doing it and getting a paypal button working (start with a simple ebook).

Then put up a squeeze page with an opt-in form (aweber or getresponse) so you can give away a report in order to build a list.

Learn how to set up a wordpress blog on your own domain.

Go back to that paypal button. When someone buys how are you going to deliver the product (e-junkie, dlguard, RAP, paydotcom)

I know this can be over-whelming for a newbie but one step at a time you can get to grips with this.

Then you can think about what you are going to promote. As a newbie you'll be starting with affiliate products or resale rights products. - Easiest thing is to giveaway reports (get some good PLR reports) with affiliate links inside, or links to your resale products.

Then it's time to learn about driving traffic to your pages with SEO, Social Media (Facebook) or paid advertising.

As a UK based marketer I am familiar with many (but certainly not all) famous UK direct response or internet-marketers and can IMHO say as a newbie you will benefit more by hanging out in this forum than paying their premium prices... I certainly wish I had.

    Hello and Happy New Year!

I started IM in August 2010. My first step was to do the "Challenge". Although a great course, I wanted something shorter, where I could start implementing much sooner. The next course, I did was the best, with a focus on "taking action" which is what newbies NEED TO DO. You will find it on my blog (subscribe first).

    Best of luck!
