How do you give backend commissions?

I was wondering if it was possible to do this,

Let's say, I was looking for affiliates to promote my product, where my landing page gives out a free report.

How can I make it so that the affiliates then get credited from the back end offer I promote in a follow up email from my autoresponder?

    At DigiResults we drop lifetime cookies valid for all products a vendor lists. So if an affiliate drives traffic to any product for a specific vendor and that customer later goes on to buy more stuff by the same vendor, they get credit for all the sales.

    This works whether those sales are made by follow up emails, upsells or just returning traffic.
