What would you do with a domain like this ...

Hey Guys and Dolls,

for a few weeks now i have been messing around with a domain i have :

reallyranting dot com

What i did was put some plr articles on it about internet marketing and making some unique articles.
I tested some ways to make money with it, and i did make a couple of bucks with adsense,
the funny thing is : in december i had around 850 unique visitors and the last 3 days, without any reason the daily visits went over 200.
it made me think to fully develop this blog, but tbh i don't want it to really be a blog about internet marketing,

hence my question : what would you do if you had a domain with this name and you have wordpress installed...

thanks for any replies

Jurrie

I would make something where people can rant anonymously.

So in other words ... instead of a blog , put a forum script on it or something ?

Agree with dvdduval - a site for people to rant - you could have categories, or even narrow the theme of the whole site - rant at your in-laws, rant at your boss, rant at that customer.... Have a look at FML: Your everyday life stories

There are scripts out there that will create the same sort of site - just google "fmylife script", some appear to be free.

The categories idea is a good one. Some people just like to rant to reduce stress and they will rant about anything. If you provide multiple categories for people to rant about and monetize it, you would have a winner of a site.

In the world we live in now, it is entirely possible for you as the owner of the site to be sued for things people say on your site.

Or run afoul of some jurisdictions' obscenity laws. And I might guess you would not be so interested in moderating everyone's rants.

        I would sell it today.

That reminds me. I made such a script and then left it sitting there. I better finish this and get it live.

I'd make it a domain catering to the "really angry and want to vent about it" niche. Put up a forum where people can vent about anything. People love to complain. Give them permission to do it and they'll oblige.

Yes, it is really possible. How likely, that is hard to say. It kind of depends on exactly what you are allowing people to say on your site.

If someone posted a blatant lie about someone else in a rant and you left it up online without dealing with it. it is entirealy possible that you as the person who is actually in charge of publishing on the site could get sued.

Kind of depends on how angry the person is that the rant was about and how long they would look for an internet-smart lawyer. But a lot of folks in the world have been sued for a lot less than publishing.

How hard would it be for someone to write something really nasty about their ex, and then with just a teaspoon of the seo knowledge that is available for free online, get that rant ranked for the person's name the rant was about.

And moderating a site like this can get you into even more trouble. In the first case at least you can plead ignorance of the truth. But when you active moderate a site and you do not remove the false claims, you are in effect saying that these things are the truth, when they are not. I am not a lawyer, but I am a erson who would sell this site and that was what your original post was about.

Kind of in the same boat as Jurrie: I bought an expired domain a few months ago thinking it was such a catchy name and had some possibilities for user-generated content. (snitchbox dot com) Haven't done anything with it yet, still not quite sure. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    -Michael
