Please Help: Video Formatting Software

I have a family member who paid for a commercial for their local business. I would like to take a copy I have on DVD and rip it to add text and be able to upload it for them on youtube.

I'm confused as to what software to buy, as every time I try to do something new with video, I end up needing or downloading something different. As it stands, I have like 5 or 6 trial programs for this, and it's getting old. lol

I bought Sony Vegas, per recommendation on this board, and am loving it. But as far as changing formats from avi to flv for faster uploads, ripping this DVD I have into a manageable format (I don't even know, I'm guessing straight to AVI???) what software do you recommend?

Am I going about this all wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Sony Vegas is great. I switched to Mac a few years ago but still use Vegas for most of my video needs.

    1. What format is the video in now and what format do you want to change it to?

2.Do you want to overlay the text on top of the video or add additional footage at the beginning or end of the video?

    3. I'll send you a pm for a free online video conversion service.

    Thanks, I'll check that out!

If I remember right, when I explore the DVD on my computer, it's just a bunch of "video ts" files.

The text is secondary, I really need to just figure out how to save the commercial from this disk I have, and get it transfered into flv format for quick uploading.
