ThunderBird v.s Outlook

What email client do most Warriors prefer, ThunderBird or Outlook?

If you can give some reasons why you prefer one or the other that would also be helpful.

Thx...

I used to prefer Outlook until it stopped working on my laptop. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I was bummed until i downloaded Thunderbird. I am happy with Thunderbird because it does almost everything I used Outlook for.

Outlook for so many reasons, although we are forced to use Thunderbird at work! Outlook's organisation and shortcuts are far easier. Say you searhing for an email you sent amongst 1000's, from what I gather you can press "s" and it goes to a mail sent to s or with the subject starting with s ddepending on how the emails are arranged d- that gets on my tick.

I actually prefer Thunderbird. All of my email accounts are IMAP. I've found that Outlook doesn't handle those too well. I've been told it's because MS wants you to buy an Exchange server, but I don't know if there's any validity to that.

I wish I had an integrated calendar app, but overall I'm very pleased with Thunderbird.

As far as e-mail I have no preference. Both have worked equally well for me. It's the task list and other organizational aspects that keep me tied to Outlook.

I would have to say Outlook is better overall. For me the big
advantage is the integrated calendar. But I do keep TB for a
back up and had to use it for awhile when Outlook started
having problems sending mail through gmail.

It lasted for a couple weeks and I could not get it sorted out,
then it started working again. I assumed it was because of an
update, but as soon as it started working, I went back to
    using Outlook.

It was on the old forum but someone mentioned that she had
over 200,000 emails stored on Outlook, and it still opened
quickly. That impressed me. There are negatives to it I'm sure,
but the most common one that people mention when they
don't like it has never happened to me. I have never had a
problem with a virus or any other attack through email with
Outlook, and I have been using it for years.

      Lloyd,

Just a heads up that TB has a great calendar plugin called Lightning.

You mentioned that TB has a great calendar plugin called Lightning. It appears to be newly released. How is it working for you?

It wasn't mentioned as an option, but I use gmail. I switched years ago from Outlook Express to Thunderbird, but I found I needed to check email when I traveled.

So I put it all into gmail.

Better spam control, faster finding of messages and I can access it from any Internet connection.

I used to use Outlook years ago.

But it was the worst least secure email client ever known to man. It was basically a virus funnel. No matter what anti virus I used Outlook just funneled in the viruses and presto my anti virus would say "you've got virus."

I know MS has improved it and made it more secure...

But I am no sucker. I will never use a microsoft email client again.

I have been using Thunderbird ever since then... 5 years strong and not one virus has ever been executed.

Ever since I stopped using Outlook I have never had a virus. Coincidence? Nope. Thunderbird is more secure.

The only thing I liked about Outlook that thunderbird cannot do is the ability to copy and paste emails or drag them to an external folder on my hard drive.

I actually just migrated my dad from outlook to Thunderbird which he is excited about.

    Thunderbird rocks.

I use Thunderbird and am VERY happy with it.

What can I say, I am a fan of mozzila products.

I also use Lightning Calendar plugin... and rely on the reminders to popup and remind me about important events.

What a wonderful piece of free software.

    Other addons that I like

    Grab and Drag
    Mailbox Alert
    Minimize to Tray Enhancer
    Minimize to Tray
    Quickmen
Quicktext (makes replying to common questions a breeze)

IF there is something that you want Thunderbird to do but doesn't, try looking for an addon. Most likely someone has made one already and if not, why not ask?

I used TB for awhile but then I needed to sync my Google calendar with my email client calendar and Google does so with the outlook calendar. If TB and Lightening would sync with Google calendar I'd go back to it!

***UPDATE*** just found the Google calendar addon but virtually ALL of the reviews say it doesn't work!

well, today I don't use any email clients, I simply log on to my gmail accounts and read messages there.

this is much safer and virus free. I don't have to worry about any viruses, attachment or phising emails.

Online mail accounts will always be slower and have less control than a real mail client.

Not sure why you don't have to worry about phising emails, unless you think gmail filters them all. A virus attachment will work the same if you open it.

Also, be sure and search the net for the mail mother f*cker wav clip (from the movie Euro Trip) so every e-mail you get is hilarious.

I use Outlook, have tried Thunderbird but found it hard to get used (it's me, not the programme) but after reading these posts and as Outlook has decided to pack a sad on my PC I'm going to give it another look!

BTW at a pinch I will go straight to gmail and if I am using Firefox (and who doesn't, really) I use the BetterGmail 2.0 add on.

Gmail is my choice. Compared to previous times, Gmail has been getting faster and faster nowadays, where loading a page simply takes not more than 2 seconds.

Or perhaps my ISP is getting better?
