How to promote my blog...

I have launched a wordpress blog reviewing albums and hooked up to amazon uk affiliates. each review is around 250 words in length and I am writing around 3-5 per day.

article marketing in this instance seems useless - I can't write an accompanying article for each review and post it elsewhere because the article would need to be longer than the review, which seems backwards.

so I was thinking of writing generic music articles and linking them back to my site using the actual site name to build the BRAND (apparently this is what SEO is all about in 2011). would this be a good idea?

aside from digging the content and tweeting it, how else can I build my traffic?

Submit your blog's feed to feed directories, syndicate your content on other sites, submit articles to more article directories with a backlink to your blog post.

Here are some ways you can promote your blog

    1. Create great content – everything starts with great content. Think 'Linkbait" -- or writing about stuff that would be so great that people will want to link to you. It can be a news hook where you write about something that is contrary to what everyone else is saying; resource hook where you have the only information available or humor hook.

    2. Update the content regularly – make your visitors come back again and again to your blog by providing daily updates (even multiple posts per day!)

or simple add your website on your signature link

Ye man i would defiately be doing article marketing, just focus the anchor text on the keywords you are trying to rank for but variate them and dont just use the same keywords.

If you send me your rss feed il submit it to all the main rss feed aggregators for you.

Create squidoo lens mate, facebook pages and twitter pages etc. these are all sites that should be able to rank high for your main keywords or lesser keywords and you can direct traffic back to your main review site. I have had some great success with getting sites like that to rank well above where my actual site could in such a short space of time.

Promoting your blog is so simple, First you must have your article to post in your blog ,content is a king but be sure that your content should be interesting in order to catch the readers attention, if your done with it,your blog must be updated, you can post your article one at a time. And also commenting on other blogs is a great way to sharpen your blogging tongue. Most blogs add the no follow tag to links there by neutralizing the value of the link to the search engines. Basically there's no quick fix for promoting your blog. It takes work , good old fashion-blue collar work so making a successful blog starts with one post at a time.

this is all good advice, thanks.

    @marian i'm on it!

@hexor i'm really putting effort into the content. even have a couple of artist lined up to interview which should help build natural traffic BUT this is all stuff that will take a LONG time, i'm after a quicker solution that I will be in more direct control of

@ben I want to cherry pick the best types of promotion, I'm usually against creating pages everywhere just to get backlinks. though it's a good idea, I've never found so much use from facebook nor squidoo (but maybe thats me)

I've never found any value in either of those two tbh. forum posting in relevant forums can drive small amounts of traffic i guess, but it's not a viable option at the moment as i dont have time to post in music forums.

You would do good to follow your own advice and write generic articles with anchor text in the backlink to boost the overall PR of your site.

Using the same anchor text each time will bring better long term results than varying it for several key phrases.

After writing your content, share your blog entries on other social media like Twitter or Facebook to get more readers. If you have other blog posts that are related to your current post, you may also want to add its link on your current output for SEO purposes. Best of luck to you!

Quite a substantial list here, but worth doing most, if not all of these:

    # Join communities at MyBlogLog
    # Join communities at Bumpzee
    # Join communities at Blog Catalog
    # Start a community at any of these sites
    # Comment on other blogs in your niche
    # Email your friends and contacts about a new blog post that may interest them
    # Email your readers to say “thank you”
    # Email other bloggers to introduce yourself
    # Link out to other blogs
    # Exchange links with other bloggers
    # Use BlogRush
    # Submit to RSS directories
    # Submit to blog directories
    # Submit to general directories
    # Start a 2nd blog and link to yourself
    # Create and give away blog themes (with a link to your blog in the footer)
    # Create free plugins
    # Create link bait
    # Participate in blog carnivals
    # Comment on DoFollow blogs

Good luck with your blog promoting!

Have you considered interviewing the artists behind each album? My colleague owns a music review website and the majority of his traffic comes from organic Google searches related to the artists being interviewed. Saves you time writing articles (all you need to do is write the questions) and you can focus on marketing instead.
