How Much Should I Charge For Advertising?

Hi

Google adsense have very recently disabled adsense on my betting forum. The reason being is it is gambling related but they have let us have ads on there since its creation 3 years ago and showed relevent sports ads, tipster ads etc but hey ho. What can ya do? Its google. I just find it a bit ironic.

Anyways consequently i have lost a large portion of my income from this so i want to now offer advertising on there.

Basicly the forum is a sports betting forum with 20,000 members with a very very active member base. We are fast becoming one of the main heavy hitters in the uk sports market.

We recieve between 1500-2000 uniques a day with on average 5-600 returning visitors as well every day. We normaly get around 17-2000 page views a day.

What i want to offer is two 729*90 banners spaces. One immidiately above the forums/threads and one at the footer.

I also want to offer 468*60 banner that will be at the very top right of the site on every single page.

All ad spaces will have 5 banners in rotation at any one time.

I really havn't got a clue about what to charge so if anybody could throw some ball park figures in the air then that would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for reading

Yeah it can take quite some time to find advertisers for your site, especially if the rate you are going to charge is high.

You might want to try and find websites that are already advertising on other sites using banner ads, and see if they would be willing to advertise on your site.

Thank you very much for the replies.

I dont really want to go down the broker route and even though i know it will be harder and take more effort id rather do it manualy.

The reason being because of things i have heard about things like text link ads and people who have had there rankings drop after adding the code they provide.

Thank you for all the replies and if anyone else has anything else to add then please do.

Ben could you not go by the adsense you used to be paid as a guide ?

Here is a quick way i used to value advertising back when i ran with banners, not gospel nor do i really know if it still would apply today.

as a preface i took average advertising prices and formed this quick calc that served me well.

take your visitors in your case 2,500 a day * 30 = 75,000 per month, now drop the last 2 digits = 750, now move the decimal to the left 2 places and you have you base advertising price = 7.50

from here look up the average price on adwords for the related keys to your site / if you are unsure plug your site url into the keyword tool or do a search on relative terms.

lets say sports betting terms on average ran @ $1.23 then you would have 7.50 * 1.23 = $9.22

now take that number and divide it by 2 = 4.61 this now gives your final advertising range of

      < $4.61 ( $9.22 ) $13.83 >

/\ how close are those to adsense ? did i bomb out ?

with 9.22 as your median you can now scale up or down dependent on number of ads position, demand and other factors.

/ i never sold ads i purchased them and that in abouts was the sums i would do to see if i was getting a good price to place my ads.

many people were overcharging for the ads spots but the often were left blank as well.

the other thing you can do is as mentioned try project wonderful.com or similar, but when using them do not cap your min bid on your ad spot, and let nature find its true balance as to your ad spots value /. best of luck with it.

Charge as much as you can. Tell everyone that your ads are auction based and that you guarantee their rate for 90 days when the start but after that they might get out bid.

Start selling for cheap and then find people who will pay more.
