Critique My Opt-In Form

It's a light box opt-box and it's set to appear after a 5 second delay, I've found this reduced bounce rate by around 10%.

What do you think? What am I doing right? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Matt

I'm not crazy about your bullets, which seem to indicate that people hate the baby naming process.

Nobody would even find your site if people hated going online and searching for baby names.

Maybe stop stressing the *relief* and start stressing the *convenience*. How you, of all sources, have everything they want, gathered together. Most popular baby names...celebrity baby names...ethnic baby names...unusual baby name ideas...

What benefit is there to subscribing to a 7-day course, instead of just looking at freely available lists? What direction or instruction do you have for them? Questions to ask yourself before you name your baby? Reasons they might NOT want to name their baby certain things? Pros and cons of popular versus unpopular baby names? Considering your last name...how a baby's FULL NAME will sound. The unique baby name: cool?...or a lifetime of anguish? I honestly don't know the answer to the question of what you offer, but presumably you do. Sell the reader on THAT.

I don't mind the form but there is one issue. What are you going to sell people after they sign up?

If you want to sell some baby name product, there's tons of free sites on this, in which case you may have a problem, just in my opinion.

If you want to do what I think you want to do and target the new born baby niche and build a list of people with babies coming, I think you may be onto something and I think the form seems pretty ok, though I would be testing it like crazy.

My sites are all pregnancy related so this definitely an option.

        What products would you suggest?

I've not been in this particular niche but I think creating a list to sell pre and post baby products, whatever they may be, I haven't got a baby either , is the way to go and to be frank, rather a good idea.

Most people just give the baby names away, at least you're, making it more fun, shall we say and getting them involved in something. It's a massively emotive niche that "buy at will" in some cases.

At a glance, baby clothes, toys, bits and bobs, I really don't know but having seen what some of my friends have bought for their kids, especially before they're born, when I think the emotions are highest, is astounding.

Remember, before the kids born it's unadulterated excitement as to what's to come, some will buy impulsively. After, the s*** hits the fan, but then they have other reasons to buy. The possibilities are endless and I may well consider this myself come to think of it

Sorry but this is actually a really incredible niche with huge possibilities if you can create a list of people interested in baby names as you are. It's mega competitive but if you can find a clever way to create a list, I think you're onto a winner. Those people on the list may be fairly short lived but they will invariably know others that are in the same situation that they can recommend you to . Think of the recommendations from post natal classes, baby schools, oh my god, why haven't I done this!!!!

Maybe consider CPA related items. Email/zip submit offers for pamper coupons and things of that nature. You can easily email your new list these types of offers.

I think a seven day course is too much, a one off short report would be far more sensible as most people will not wait seven days to choose their babys name!

Just condense your seven day report into 1 pdf

Also change the “Get instant access” to something more relevant like “Find your babys name”.

I would also consider replacing the ladies image with that of a cute baby (NOTE: On most images you can get away without copyright after a fashion, but do not try using a babys image without it!) – Most pregnant ladies do not want reminding of their size! ½ hours work at the most

You should try split testing the headline with one about finding the perfect name, meaningful name, most popular name.

I don't think struggling is the right word to lead off on.

  • Something to consider is the fact that people have become blind to drop-ins, this may not necessarily apply to your market specificaly but on the whole people see drop-ins and immediately look for the close button or bounce straight off the page.

That is why other, less obtrusive forms of placing optin forms on the page have evolved such as optin bars and non standrd facebpxes which can be placed any where on the page.

You should split test the set up you alraedy have with optin bars for example.

"HOW TO PICK THE PERFECT NAME FOR YOUR BABY"

This is your main offer/benefit... but it's buried.

And add in the 'for YOUR baby' to personalize more.
