Wordpress membership Plugin- any disadvantages?

Are there any disadvantages over the wordpress membership plugin, over membership scripts?

(as i was planing to have a wordpress membership site too later this year, along side my other Non wordpress membership site)

    Ok I'm just trying to make sure I understand this properly.

    Membership plugin meaning you're going to start running a Membership website?

    OR

    Membership plugin meaning using wordpress for the site instead of a php login script?

    If you mean the first, then I'd highly recommend it over other scripts as WordPress is very easy to customize and work with; whereas a script could be very hard to work with.

    In it's essence: wordpress + membership plugin ~= membership script.
    The big (huge) advantage of using wordpress+membership plugin is that you automatically inherit (for free) the full power and flexibility of wordpress with all it's extensibility, plethora of plugins, themes, enhancements and huge community. So you'll certainly have more future going with Wordpress-based solutions.

    Going with standalone membership script means you'll be locking yourself to a specific vendor and can only operate on a mercy and within capabilities of that vendor.
