Have you sold a $7 ebook for $17 (by experimenting)?

EDIT: which one gets more sales?
#$17

    There's no one answer.

It'll depend on your product and your sales letter....

That being said, cheap is cheap - and if all things are created equal, you'll sell just as many $17 as $7

Better results and more sales are two different things. You will have no way of knowing what brings you more profit until you try each of them out.

And then you must decide if maximizing profit is your primary objective with a $7 or $17 product.

Personally, at those price points I focus more on acquiring the maximum number of customers.

Say you have a Lifetime Customer Value of $100 after the initial sale.
        100 visitors...8 sales @ $17 = $136 on the front end. 8 x $100 Lifetime Value = $800.

Total value of those 8 customers = $817
        .

        100 visitors...10 sales @ $7 = $70 on the front end. 10 x $100 Lifetime Value = $1,000.

Total value of those 10 customers = $1,070
        .

So even if your front end conversion rate only drops to 8% @ $17 (from 10% @ $7), you need to know what your objective is.

If this product is your main profit center, go for the $17 price point and higher immediate sales & profit.

If this product is an entry/front end to a bigger sales system, go for the $7 and the increased number of customers that comes with the higher conversion rate.

You can't and should never just assume that a lower price point will mean a higher conversion rate. As funny as it may sound, this is not always the case.

I couldn't agree more. Was just illustrating that knowing your objective can make a big difference (that's why I used nice, easy, round numbers as well). To me, testing is just a given so I forgot to add the typical statement regarding the necessity of conducting one's own tests. I should know better by now.

Sell what ever you have at both prices. See how
many you sale at each price. You'll get your own
      answer.

test. ^ As stated there's never a universal answer, all depends on what you're offering.
I like this answer, because you made a pattern, haha

did you guys split the 2?

Don't get fixated on the price. Products can and will sell well at either price point, the real key is to deliver outrageous and unheard-of value for the price at which you're offering your product. If you can do that, it'll sell well at $7, $17 or even $27.

depending on your goal. If your goal is to make money, then $17 is better of coz. If your goal is to create affiliates then $7 is easier.

The question you have to ask is, how much do your target audience think your ebook is worth? Tat,, you will have to test and find out.

With apologies for a dissenting voice, I strongly suspect exactly the opposite.

Their own commissions are a factor taken into account by affiliates when selecting products to promote. It's true there are some affiliates willing to promote $7 products (usually for 100% commission and the prospect of OTO/upsells), but it can hardly be easy, in principle, to attract affiliates to a $7 product. There isn't really enough money to cover the processing fees and go round. With occasional exceptions, such products are sold mostly for list-building, cost-covering and upsell purposes - not to "derive primary income".

OK, this comes from a person that makes money. Think retail and win. Do not sell for $7 as that is not the best point for your price. Sell the product for $9.95 which most people consider pocket change. The next price point is $19.95 which is mean you have to make you ebook bigger, but there you go.

My best advice is to sell the ebook for $29.95 and then have a 50% off sale where you sell it - THIS WEEK ONLY for $14.95 - Get it now!

And you can advise on price without knowing anything at all about the product, the niche or the market?!

      I would question that,

but many $7 dollar secrets or RAP products are for $7, and many people keep selling their ebooks for $7

If you think the information is valuable, pricing should be all up to you. People will pay anything for something they perceive valuable to them and a benefit to them. If your not sure if its worth $7 or $17, then from what I understand, you don't have much confidence in your product. Have confidence that your product is valuable, and slap the $17, if not stick with $7, get some feedback, fine tune it to where you will be comfortable enough to charge $17. You can ask anybody their opinion, but all that matters is how much YOU believe will give the reader value. and keep split testing like what others have already told you here. Don't try to sell, if you do your marketing right, sales should follow naturally.
    hope this helped.

Hmmm depending on what you are offering. If you have a strong backend/OTO, selling at $7 might be a good idea to widen your initial funnel. If the product contains a few components with good quality, I think $17 is an okay price. But like what the other warriors said, perhaps you want to split test. =)

Here's some sales advice that goes for any type of product (well, almost any)....

Sell VALUE. Not price. If people see value in your $17 e-book, they will buy your e-book for $17.

I had a product that I was selling at $17 and it did ok but I personally felt like it would do better at a lower price point and the consumer would get more value at a lower price point so I lowered the price to $9.95 and it has been enjoying a steady stream of sales ever since.

Now, I could have added more value to the product and played with the sales letter in order to obtain more sales at $17 but I preferred to invest my time eslewhere on my business where a higher expected ROI could be achieved.

Perhaps on a slow day I may go add more to that particular product or I may go and jazz up the sales letter and than raise the product price but for now I'm content to enjoy the daily multiple sales at $9.95.

    Respectfully,
    Tim

No one can say, really. It depends on a lot of factors including the market, your offer, the perceived value among others.
